Hi Maureen, Im sorry to hear about your situation. If you havent been to the post-op pregnancy board I would recommend it. There are a lot of wonderful ladies there, a lot very early post op pregnancies. I dont know how they expect you to not loose anymore weight, for crying out loud you just had your stomach shrunken!! I have been told that most obese mothers have a lot of reserve and the baby takes what it needs. I got preggo at 6 months post-op, I only gained a total of 7 pounds but after having him I was 20 pounds lighter than I wes pre-preggo...sadly my baby had a heart defect and passed away at 18 days old, NOT WLS RELATED!!, and I went through a bout of depression and have gained about 10 pounds back. There are a lot of days that I regret the surgery as well. I know it wasnt WLS related but it is hard to look past that sometimes, I had had 2 healthy babies prior....plus to see that damn scale go back up!! Its so frustrating. If you ever need anyone to talk to, email me. We are TTC now. Take Care and God Bless, Roxanne Wife to Kyle Momma to: Zackery 11/19/95 Nathan 12/12/01 Tristan 3/7/05-3/25/05 My forever in my heart!! I feel very hopeful for you! That's one of the good thing about this Band of ours; if you do decide one day you must have it out, it's a relatively simple thing to do. But I hope it continues to work and you are able to get where you want to go!

I gotta give a shout out for the Band as well! But I must say, if the Band had not been available for whatever reason, and I decided to go through with WLS anyway, I would have chosen DS. Never RNY.

I don't think it was actually "hidden" but when the site was updated, a lot of things got changed around.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-gone_wrong/ Satiety is driven by the vagus nerve, however. What many pre-ops and too many post-ops don't understand is that full doesn't = stuffed, but merely "not hungry anymore". I suspect as time goes by, they'll find a pretty big regain rate with the VG unfortunately...since the smaller stomach will become more elastic and allow more volume (which we know happens with DS folks and it's their high level of malabsorption that allows them to keep that weight off because they can and do eat quite a bit more down the line). One of the reasons I chose the band was its direct interaction with the vagus nerve. I don't stop eating because I can't force another bite down, I stop eating because my hunger shuts off and I'm comfortably satisfied because the brain has gotten that physical signal (you know...the one they always told us about while telling us that meals had to be 20-30 min in length to give that nerve enough time to fire the signal). I too know my body well and had a diagnosed physical satiety disorder (vagus nerve not close enough to stomach to ever fire off that signal). I want that ghrelin to give me the other end of the equation...real hunger. So now my eating is driven like a normal person's: I eat when I'm physically hungry, and I stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore. But the group is a great wealth of information for both people exploring the idea of surgery and those post-op experiencing problems. Nancy 394/260/180

Nancy can you link me to the yahoo group? I am very interested in learning as much as I can from anyone who has had the DS. I feel very strongly about the VG and think it is the wisest choice to take to at least get down to a safe size and see if it is working continually or if you will need the second half of the surgery. IF so then the option of having it done is there. I know my body and what most haven't understood is that so far to this point in my life, my body is very sensitive to everything. I don't need to take 2 extra strength tylenol for pain of a severe sinus or migrane, I only take a 500mg and it is gone. So I feel my body would be fine with the VG. My surgeon however, doesn't do just that part of the operation as he feels like some who have posted here, that it will not be fully effective. I feel differently for my body. I have a theory, that if you close your eyes when you eat and actually "taste your food" you will also be very aware of how your stomach feels and know when it says "I am satisfied". NOT over done but just right and the maintenance of the goal weight will be attainable and sustainable. Just my opinion though.

How strange that I never knew there was one and posted about this same thing on the Fla board and was told it was always there never hidden.

I called the association. They said that they are basically an educational organization and have no mechanism for complaints. Apparently all a doctor needs to do is pay his or her dues and they remain a member in good standing there. CORI was quite clever~ they billed for surgeon's fees, not aftercare. Apparently they lump it all into one sum. Unfortunately and fortunately there is no legal recourse. I consulted an attorney who told me that because there are no "damages" per se, nothing physically wrong with me, there is no lawsuit. While I am grateful that I am in apparent good health, it is annoying to say the least that this center has basically gotten away with this negligent abandonment. I would like to prevent this from happening to anyone else, but it would appear that my hands are tied at least legally. I know the OH board alllows them to advertise here. I wonder if they have any idea of what's happening with this center in New York. I found aftercare and for that I am grateful. It is expensive, though and I hope my insurance will cover at least part of the cost. If they don't then I just have to find a way to pay for it.
