Amanda, NO REGRETS!! I am one year out on the 30th of November and down almost 100 pounds. No diarrhea, no vitamin deficiencies... and I just got back from a relatives house where they all marveled at how "normally" I could eat at Thanksgiving Dinner. I had a small portion of EVERYTHING, even pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream! Best of luck with your DS... I hear Marchesini is excellent! Amanda, I had the DS in November of last year. I've lost 100 pounds. I'm happy as a clam. The "gossip" you hear about the DS just isn't true. My gas is minimal and totally controllable depending on what I'm eating. The smell is manageable with taking some Pro-biotics (acidophilus, bifido bacterium, etc.) that's the good bacteria our gut needs to process the food we eat. And other than that, it was the single best thing I've ever done...and I'm no spring chicken (I'll be 56 next month.) Come to the DS board and talk to some of us and you'll see for yourself. Let me know if I can answer any questions via my email. Good luck. The MOST important thing I've learned on this journey is to ask lots of questions...and then ask some more. Best regards, Fern B. 267/167/150 (who knows?)

Lisa, I am so sorry you're having difficulty with the results of your surgery. Your name caught my eye, because someone I bought a lot of stuff from someone on eBay who had a similar name. Please forgive me for jumping in here, but are you aware of the DS? You can get a RNY revised to a DS which allows you to basically eat all foods without dumping, no strictures because the stomach maintains its original usage (with the pylorus intact,) and there are no food restrictions. Also, weight loss is somewhat better further out and Diabetes II is cured with this surgery. The switch part is being performed in Europe to cure Diabetes on people who are not obese. Just thought you might want to check this out. Good luck. Please come to the DS board and ask lots of questions...we're always available. Best regards, Fern B. 267/167/150 (who knows?)

Topic: RE: WLS Candidates - PLEASE check out the DS procedure
Hi guys, I'm also a happy DS-er, only my life is even easier. Two weeks post-op, I take only my vitamins and a daily Nexium. I'm already tolerating all food I try with no nausea at all and haven't had diarrhea since my 6th post-op day. I only go 1-2 times a day, much like a normal person, I would say. Valerie

Hi Jenn. I am wondering why you regret surgery so soon after having it. Your profile seems pretty positive on the whole. Are you just in mourning right now? Mourning the way life was before surgery when you did not have to think about what to eat and could just chow down, so to speak? That is a pretty normal reaction to WLS. You are losing and adding years to your life, healthy years! The first 3 months after surgery were very hard for me and my friends who have had WLS. There were many tears shed over the "loss" of food. It's a really tough adjustment when you ae used to relying on a pint of Ben and Jerry's for comfort at night, and when you can't have it, it feels like you lost your best friend. I still struggle with eating and other food issues, so I can understand where you are coming from. Some people can eat whatever they want, my friend who had WLS 6 weeks ago is one of them and I am so jealous of her! Please share exactly why you regret it so! You and I started at exactly the same weight, so I am very interested. Bonnie
