Topic: RE: Biggest Mistake of My Life
I didn't have wls, but I have had 4 c-sections, one gone bad with infection and was down for 3 months and a lap-choli 2 days after a c-section, so I think I can chime in here... Any surgery where you have anesthesia will leave you feeling bad for alot longer than you think! I think I didn't regain energy for nearly a year after my 4th c-section which got infected. The anesthesia stays in your system for a long time and can make you feel lethargic. I've heard that after wls your energy will return once you're eating a more regular diet. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. Jane hubby having wls in a couple of weeks!

Topic: Has anyone had neurological problems post op
Just wonder if any one has had neurological problems after surgery. I had surgery June 2001, went well done well. Had 2 hernia repairs, tummy tuck and breast reduction. Was iron defic. 2 years after surgery. But, is normal now all other blood work has been normal no other deficincies (sp). Last November I was diagonsised with ALS "Lou Gehrig's Disease" had muscle weekness in right leg. I believe it is 2 whole different things, doctors do to after all blood work is normal. But, just wonder? Thanks for listening and any info!!! Roni

Get the WLS that YOU want and can live with. If you choose RNY- go for it, but do not let the insurance company make such a life changing decision for you. Since the lapband is not experimental, if the ins co covers on surgery, there's a good chance they have to cover all that are FDA approved. You will find both RNYs that regret their choice and Lapbanders that regret their choice, so it's best to look at what you can tolerate and live with. BY the way, I've also seen DS's convert to lapband and vice versa. For example, there is no malabsorption with the band- is that a positive or a negative for you? Lapband is safely reversible- some feel this is great, while others think it's a way out. With the lapband, you have to go in for fills and it could take a while before you start losing weight- are you o.k. with that? Lapbanders lose their weight slower - is that a positive or negative for you? These are some of the things that should be considered. What may be listed as a benefit for some may not be a benefit to others. Choose the surgery YOU can live with, not your insurance company. Bev

This is because your phone number is public when listed in a phone book, not because of anything you might post on the internet. Unless your phone is unlisted, it will come up if someone searches on it. If someone Googles your phone number, it's linked to Mapquest or some other map system to come up with your address. The way around that is to unlist your phone number.

Maria, I had an open RNY with Dr. Vaughn in December of 2004. Personally, I think he is absolutely excellent, as is Dr. Boe and all of the Barix nursing staff. If you have any questions, you can read my profile or email me. Terry

I had a hiatal hernia and later found out that I had a diverticula (I guess that would be what you called "ulcer"). I don't want to scare you, but it was a very dangerous situation for me. I was in the hospital for four months immediately following surgery. I had last rites given twice. I wouldn't recommend this surgery. You are welcome to write me for more info., but it sounds like you had similar preexisting conditions that for me were nearly fatal. [email protected]
