Topic: RE: Any VSG Regrets????

What is your experience and why are you and your wife regretting it? I'm getting sleeved on 4/25/13 and am considered a lightweight because I'm 214.8 lbs and am 5'3". For me I feel that VSG would be a great tool to get me down to 130 lbs.

Topic: RE: Why we overeat...
I want to thank you for your post. I have not yet had surgery but am going to in the next couple of months. I wanted too know realistically what to expect and so I started reading on these forums and have to say I was getting more than a little nervous. I will be the first to admit that I eat more now than I did before sicknesses and hormone therapy and many similar issues started me towards the path of obesity. Now it is all on me, I feel so much hungrier than I ever did before, and eat so much more than before. After reading some of the other posts though it was a little scary to think maybe I am setting myself up for failure. But I appreciate knowing the physical reasons not just psychological for eating too much. I really like how you help keep it all in perspective and hope to have a similar positive attitude...wls is a tool to help control the physical hunger so all of the other steps can work. Thank you

Topic: RE: Missing the weight?
I'm pre-op so I'm not speaking from experience, but I can say that I have been wrestling with one thing that I will miss. Over the years I have worked very hard to try to be at peace with being fat. I have made a lot of good friends in the plus-size community and to some extent I feel like I am part if a sorority of fat sisters. By having this surgery I am saving my life and gaining access to so many dreams I had all but given up on. But I know I'm going to lose my place in that community. It's hard to know that I will go from being one of "us" to one of "them". It makes me really sad. But my health and my life come first.

Wow.... there are no words to express the depth of your despair! My heart and prayers are with you. Many times we are left wondering what happened, what didn't happened, and why we didn't see it coming. Please know that the love we shared with another human being is the most important thing and the only thing we remember when it all comes to an end. I wish there was some way to fill in the huge chasm that must have formed in your life. Hang in there

Topic: RE: Problems w/ nutrition, adrenals, thyroid, kidneys, fatigue. Is WLS to blame?

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps a Rheumatologist appointment - I have heard that gastric bypass is being associated with anti-immune disorders (which your symptoms would fit into). I have had many of the symptoms you describe and more. Best of luck - hope you find an answer - follow what seems to make you feel best

Topic: RE: Any tips on non-jumpy appetite control thing out there

Low carb long time... frequent meals - every 2-3 hrs a small snack will keep the hunger away

Artificial sweeteners - are known to cause hunger, same with SA - at least for me.   Dense proteins - with non-starchy veggies - not only that stabilize my hunger - but long term - allow me to forget about food. For me main issue was to eliminate food with gluten  - it was an accident - but worked better than expected.

That and liquids in between meals.

Exercise is fine and regular. The hunger is the monster. Protein or not.

Thanks.

Yea it's a constant battle after wls  previous issues or not..I'm going through a mess of things and to top it all off I had heart attack # 2 ,3 weeks ago. I thought how could this happen after 110 weight loss I eat 90 % healthy, and I have maintained my weight loss. Now i have 8 stents and open heart surgery and wls. Doctors discovered thyroid and lung tumors now. guess some of us just have never ending health issues..Also going through menopause myself too.

I told my surgeons nurse i wanted a reversal Rny, she said it just causes even more issues with scar tissues. and the rearranging of your insides..I was having problems with the scar tissue from all the stents i had put in me. causing me to limp....I would work with what you have and go back to the beginning of your wls..Use it..I do...Hugs to you stay strong..PeaceV Wendy
