Another perspective that I see. The real 'us' (our spirit man) was made alive when we received Jesus the Christ, the risen and alive, as our Lord and Saviour, and our spirit man is continuing to be perfected as we continue IN His Word. The real 'us' are not our bodies. Our bodies are our tents, or another way to say it is: our bodies are our houses while we live on this earth  /or/ our bodies are our earth suits that allow us to live here. Without our earth suits, we (the real us) go on to FOREVER be with the Lord. Woohoo! In the meantime...  God made our bodies to be perfect and they would still be perfect, had it not been for the fall of Adam. (And don't you know, God knew that would happen beforehand and already had our redemption ready.) But, because of the fall, we're forever having to 'put our flesh under'. We who are eligible for, or have had this surgery know all too well how we've messed up our bodies by not following His direction to do that. He desires us to do this so that we can live long on the earth and do the work He has placed us here to do. Putting our flesh under gives us more 'time' here on the earth. The great thing about the surgery is - it's a 'quick' work on our flesh so we're able to get to 'our calling' with our gaze fixed on Him, instead of remaining where we were when we were all caught up in our 'body'. Keeping this in mind along with remembering the Lord looks at the heart (spirit) gives me freedom by knowing there's nothing spiritually or morally wrong with having this surgery. I am so glad you've asked this question. It's helping me put it all in perspective! Ronda

What great replies and support!  I am so glad to see so many people praying about this. I am married to a Pastor.  We prayed together about this, and everything fell into place so quickly and easily with insurance, surgeons, schedule, ect...  I feel that this is His way of letting me know everything is alright, and it will help me to live a longer, healthier life to do His works..  Good luck, and God Bless you. Sandy

Sonia, I know it's been a while since you posted this but see you haven't had surgery yet.  I've had severe nausea after anesthesia from previous surgeries.  Before, my RNY I emphasized to the anesthesiologist I get very ill when waking up and he gave me some med in my IV that would help.  This is the first surgery (I've had 4 previous) that I wasn't sick.  Be sure to let your anesthesiologist know they can help. Just read your  post, and had to answewr. I too am a Christian, a ministers wife, and had my struggles with "changing what God created"..until one day in prayer the Lord reminded me,,I changed what He created when I had heart surgery to save my life, hysterectomy to rid myself of possible cancer, foot surgery so I could wear shoes and walk again , vein surgery in my legs to stop the edema and cellulitis problems, gallbladder surgery to rid my body of a toxic gallbladder, so what is different this time? When I attended the seminar with my surgeon he said this" The Lord, when He made our bodies, was too good to us. He gave us too big a stomach, and we think we have to fill it up. We did so many times, that now, its broken, and wont tell us when we are full. I will fix what is broken, and give you a new stomach, and it will make you healthy and well and whole again. It will give you back your life." That pretty much let me know that he was the surgeon for me. He wasnt trying to improve on what God had created,,he had fixed what had been broken.  That was 18 months ago, and now, I can kneel to pray again, I can walk down the stairs at church to teach my Sunday School class, I can lead our Singles Ministry, travel with my husband when he preaches, sing in the choir again because I can breathe, direct our Drama Ministry. I am using my new life, to better serve Him. And I think He is pleased, I think that is why he made the surgery available to me. Ask yourself,,what is my motive for having the surgery. Therein lies your answer. Blessings Betsy

I hate to butt into a post that isn't mine, but I would also like to see your diet Jeannie.  I had surgery in 03, and have gotten stuck at around 200 pounds.  I am 5'4 so you can see I'm in need of a jump :) Thanks, Belinda [email protected]

Ty for the reply...I couldn't find this forum until now for some reason it just wouldn't show up. I am waiting on the my appointment to see the surgeon, but it has been a week and they haven't called me back...I've called at least three times. Anyway I think I will do just that...take some free time and really ask God and hopefully it will not be so hard to find the answer.  As I at times have difficulty understanding or seeing what his answer is.

tsgarr 's response to you is a wonderful response, because it sums up our awesome freedom of "us in Christ" and "Christ in us". After praying about this surgery for myself, I point blank asked the Lord to show me and make it clear to me, if this surgery was good for me. I wanted to know if His blessing was on it. And I thanked Him for the answer. I knew I couldn't go through with it until I knew I would not be in error to His will for me. A few weeks later, I was reading Proverbs 23. The second verse says, "If you're a man given to appetite put a knife to your throat." WOW! A light shown on those words and I KNEW that this was His word to me in answer to my prayer. With the variety of answers you've received, hopefully you realize this surgery is for those who need it. I believe the Lord supplied it by bringing the knowledge of this to the earth. Not everyone needs it. But some of us do. He's given the surgeons the 'know how" to help those of us who do. If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of "the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. James 1:5 (Amplified version) Ronda
