Topic: RE: GASTRIC BYPASS GONE WRONG
I just had a revision. My first surgery was in June of 05 within a few weeks I knew it wasnt working, by the sixth mnth I met with another surgeon for a revision. I was unwilling to go to DS, which I would have prefered, but he did revise the RNY.
Since Feb, I have lost a little more than 40lbs. Not alot considering I was 423 at the first surgery & 340 for the second. I am losing weight VERY slowly, although now I cant eat alot & eat healthy, the doc says that my metabolism is SLOW. clinicly it is! So I have to excersize (which I hate!) But I havnt given up yet. Please dont give up either.
Topic: RE: VSG problems?
I saw a post on the Revision board where someone didn't lose but 50lbs or so and is looking into a revision of the VSG. Otherwise I haven't seen anyone else unhappy with the VSG.

I'm not a medical professional but I'm going to say it anyway: Your surgeon's advice about two meals a day is horse hockey. There's no way your body is going to cooperate with a minimum-calorie diet divided into just two meals a day.
Yes, you might be relying too hard on protein shakes and you might need more "real food" and a more varied diet. Generally speaking, your diet should be low in fat, relatively low in carbohydrates, very low in processed and high glycemic index carbs (don't eat parsnips, they're absorbed almost as fast as straight glucose! Really! *g*), generous in protein and fresh veggies, and you should be drinking a ton of water a day and taking your supplements.

getting put to sleep always makes me very nausiated. i told my anestesioligist. he gave me something for my tummy before and after surgery. believe me, the last thing they want you to do after surgery is throw up. dont worry so much

Topic: RE: wasted time
I thought about having wls for 7 years before I finally committed to going through with it ... Back then, I thought I would have GB and baically be "cured" of my desire to eat, and that my problems would magically disappear. I am soooo glad that I waited until I did to have surgery b/c I realized during this time that this is not a cure ... It's a tool.
The good thing is that your wife still has her tool if and when she is ready to use it.

Topic: RE: moral issues with WLS...please help
Well, when God created us, I figure that there weren't enormous amounts of unhealthy foods to tempt us, etc. Things have changed over the years that makes fighting obesity next to impossible ... Adam and Eve certainly didn't have to deal with the abundance of food and junk we have to deal with today.
The other thing is that we constantly interfere with "what God created." We take medications, have surgeries to repair birth defects, plastic surgery, etc. If it were wrong to change what God created, why would it be ok to have surgery to change a birth defect??? My point is that our digestive systems worked great for when it was created: when food was scarce. Now, that is no longer the case. If you have tried to lose weight on your own and simply cannot do it, perhaps it is best to humble yourself and accept the help that is being offered. Somehow I think God would understand your wanting to be a healthier person who is dealing with society the way it is today, and not base it on what was created 6000 years ago.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: Bypass & eatting disorders......
hello, I am new here but I am preparing to have surgery (vsg/w/ds )most likely in june.
25 yrs ago I had a stomach stapling.....I lost 200 lbs..did great but puked for years! I mean like 7 years...at least once a day.usually more. I kept my weight off for 17 years for the most part. but yes , I truely bellieve it is a major concern. I know another gal that had it done about 15 years ago and she still throws up. I remember eating not liking the full feeling so I would go throw up. back then there wasnt that much said about bulimia....and most people thought anorexia and bulimia were one in the same. I was once hospitalised with"anorexia" about 8 months after surgery..... my father had a stapling 30 years ago and he still throws up after a big meal if he is over full. I actually remember my surgeon tell me " If you feel too fulll go in the bathroom and stick your finger down your throat or you will ruin your surgery. So it became habit I think. I think it is alot more common than people think. good for you starting a group!
