Have you looked into counseling? Sounds like there are a lot of negative feelings you are both dealing (or not) with. Maybe a trained third party could offer some additional tools for both of you to help her get back on track and help you not feel resentful, which is a natural way to feel for someone whom has been so supportive for so long. Just a thought. I think it's what I would do if in your situation.

I had the same problem and really couldnt make up my mind. Then I started reading posts here, starting at the oldest and read and read and read. What I've found is that ALOT of Banders eventually get RNY. I eat because of hunger, my belly rumbles all the time. I needed to know that I would have about a year of NO hunger to re-train myself and my eating habits. All procedures are dangerous, I think its a personal choice. I believe that RNY will give me a chance to live the rest of my life without food being the center of my universe. Good luck in making a choice! Keep reading!
ShellAnd a lot of RNY'rs get the DS.
The RNY is reversible. I don't know who keeps saying it isn't but it is. Even the switch part of the DS is revsersible. Only the stomach portion that is removed is not reversible.

read my profile to find out why I chose the DS for my revision from failed RNY. I simply didn't want another surgery that could and most likely would fail again. (the rate of rny regain is huge).

Dr. Schweitzer in Baltimore does the DS. He's one of the best. You can check out the real DS surgeons at this website: http://www.duodenalswitch.com/surgeons/surgeons.html

Catherine,
I would be interested in the DS, BUT:
My surgeon doesn't do it and I don't know anyone in my immediate are who does.
It's very high risk even more so than the gastric bypass.
I figure if I do have regain (which I would pray would not be a problem for me) then I would consider putting the band on top of the bypass rather than go for something like DS.
I would wait for DS to become more widely spread and if it's the wave of the future, more surgeons need to learn about it and perfect it, IMHO. Topic: RE: Finally! A Support Group South of Boston
I would be interested... South Shore being?? Let me know,

I had the band and lost 80 pounds in just under a year. Was close to goal! Good luck!

Hi there,
Good points. At the same time, one could look at it like this:
Sometimes rather than pulling a tooth we could do something more gentle like treat the infection in it.
I see it this way: I will probably try the Lap Band first. If it works for me, then fabulous. If it doesn't, well then at least I tried the least invasive option first before pulling out the big guns.

ok so since the last time posted on this I have had more testing and ive researched more. I bought a book t help me with my decision.
here are a few things i am debating on.
i need to lose alost 180 lbs
I dont want to have a 2nd surgery if the procedure i chose didnt work.
I dont want to go through the fills
worry about slippage
I was told because of my weight my insurace most likely will only approve RNY
i like the easier reversal of lapband- but ive been obese for 31 years- why reverse back to that?
some do very well on lapband. some dont....same with RNY
you need to decide what you need to help you loseweight...is it the feeling of fullness or is it the malabsorption??????
well im done rambling for now.... im in the same boat with you.... wen you find out more info pass it on.... good luck
Topic: considering VSG
I am hoping to find anyone with horror stories about the VSG. I am currently in the final appeal stage w/ ins co. and am hoping for a win, however I am still wondering why I can't find any unsatisfied VSGers. Please advise only if you have negative info as there is plenty of positive info on the VSG forum........Thanks Marc
