Topic: RE: 5 yrs post op RNY.. WEIGHT GAIN.. wanting DS now
Hi Staci -- I too am experiencing some weight gain and need to get back on track! I have absolutely no desire for a revision, but instead want to get back to the healthy way of living that helped contribute to my success after RNY 4 years ago.  Much of my problem centers sround the fact that I am plain lazy and my exercise partner and best friend who held me accountable and was able to inspire me has moved to another state. I think I just need someone to relate to and share the next leg of the journey with. I have gone from 185 (my lowest, and felt/looked the best!) to a new high of 210!! I want to get back to 185. The thing is, I have an appetite and I detest exercising until I'm doing it.  Want to support each other? email me. Jen

Topic: RE: GASTRIC BYPASS GONE WRONG
Just wanted to offer you a hug. I know they do the DS at www.lapsf.com as well. Also, many DSers have great experiences in Brazil.  Dr. Marchienesi (?) is supposed to be wonderful.  Try duodenalswitch.com and then go to the forums.

Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

I know quite a few Bandsters call their Bands, surgically induced bulimia.  My guess is that it's much more common than many will admit.  Have you considered OA? (Overeaters Anonymous)  They have meetings online as well.  I know many people with ED have found help there.

Topic: RE: MGB and problems
None of the MGB docs do any insurance files... all are self-pay at $17000.  It's been that way since about 5-6 years ago, when Dr. Rutledge had issues with the insurance companies over his procedure. (I think it was a coding issue... back when he was in NC).  Anyways, to avoid any further issues, he decided to go to a strictly self-pay model.  It is not fraud, by the way, for him to do that and for an insurance patient to submit a claim on their own for reimbursement.  It's unlikely the insurance company will reimburse, but it is not fraud.  It would be fraud, however, if the payment went to the surgeon. I've been on WLS boards since 1998. (Even OH since then... only under a different profile.)  Havent' seen many complications with MGBers, but a few have chosen revisions.  Seems to have a lot of success, low complication rate, etc.  I'd join the MGB Yahoo Group and ask for some names of some long-time MGBers.  Should be able to find people who are 6-8 years out. Good luck :)

Honestly, the Lap-Band, in general, doesn't work as well for higher BMI people.  It's rare to meet Bandsters who lose 160 pounds.  There are those who do... but once again, it's rare. Have you looked into the VSG? (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy)?? Has a similar safety profile to Lap-Band, but looks to be a bit more successful for higher BMIs.  Was originally conceived for super MO people who were too big to do a DS on safely... so it was split into two parts.  Found out that many people lost so much that they didn't need/want the second part (rerouting the intestines).  You can find out more on the VSG forum, www.lapsf.com, or at vsgfaq.com
