BRILLIANT thoughts, well expressed.  I have contemplated the protective value of fat too - it keeps men away!  Like you said, weight loss can force you to deal with other vulnerabilities.  Oh well, one day at a time!  Thanks for the post.

Topic: RE: Always HUNGRY!!!!!!
Hello there, I had my RNY on May1,2006, I have lost 155lbs. I gained back about 5-7 lbs.I cant drink the protein shakes and I have read that someone has 95g of protein a day. How the heck can I have that much protein? What should I eat? I seem to snack alot lately, I eat a bagel with cream cheese every morning, no lunch, then a full dinner. Tonight I had 3 small pieces of ham and baked beans with a salad. I ate it all. Then at night I have a full bag of popcorn (light).I am so confused on what to eat, how to get protein, and what to look for when I go shopping. Do you think you can help? Thank you , Joannie

Topic: RE: Converting from LapBand to RNY Bypass???

Zen, are you just wanting to convert becuase of slow weight loss? What was your starting weight and what are you at now? It does take longer to loose with the lap-band but that is exactly why I got it because it gave my skin time to adjust to my body. I know some people have problems with the band and have to change and that is understandable.  Maybe you are just eating the wrong things or too much, I don't know the reasons for this but you might want to talk to your doctor and nut to get some insight. I actually write down everything I eat at www.fitday.com this keeps me accountable. It has been 2 years almost since my surgery and I have lost right at 145 lbs. so I know the lap-band works.

Let me know if I can help you!!

Debbie

You need to check the cost for fills and aftercare with each band surgeon.  I paid $16,000 for my band and that covers all my fills at the clinic for lifetime.

Hi Anne, I had a revision to the lapband in 2006, from the VBG I had in 1987.  In almost 20 months I am down from 251 lbs. day of surgery to 127 lbs. and the band has been a godsend to me.

Lisa, I am so sorry, that post was oviously not ment for you. I was so tierd last night and I must of clicked on your post instead of the person that I ment to get it. I usualy don't go off like that I have just had so much experience with telling my story and then someone will jump back real fast and let me know that it must be something I did wrong or that the benifits out way the risks. I went to a support group before I started developing problems and as soon as this lady started talking abut her problems the group was practicaly attacking her telling her how she is doing everything wrong and then after she left I had to listen to two lady's talk about what a lier she was and how all of her complications were in her head. Then last night when I got home I saw someone post something about "sorry for your loss but gastric bypass is the best," those were not her words but basically and I was so upset fom the news I was told from my doctor at Stanford that I am now up to sixteen injections a day and that I have to undergo a removal on my pancreas. So again I am so very sorry and yu must of thought I was a real nutt. Thanks for the words of encouragment. Happy Holidays, Kim

You replied to a post I made expressing my sympathy to a  young girl whose mom had died after having WLS.  I guess I'm confused as to why you thought I was being a "gastric bypass cheerleader".  I was merely thanking her for sharing her story, so people who are considering surgery can make an informed decision.   I am sorry for all the complications you have experienced, as well.  And I think you are right to be telling others of your experience.  It's important for people to know all the possibilities of what could happen.  I sincerely hope your doctors can find a solution to the problems you are experiencing. I am so tierd of people like u that here or see people in pain and start defending gastric bypass. I don't think someone who lost there mother to this wants a gastric bypass cheerleader to tell her all the benifits. I know I sure don't as I sit here dieing slowly due to this surgery.....
