For the most part I am ok with my decision BUT....I have had chronic constipation since I left the hospital.  That was 9 1/2 months ago.  I have been unable to "go" on my own and I dependant on laxatives.  On top of all of that, my surgeon made my pouch too big for me to benefit me beyond what it already has.  So if I were you, I would look into all versions of the surgery and ask too many questions....I did not get enough information.  I would still do it again because I can be fixed and I can now walk without a limp.

Hi there gang, I am on a hunt to find people who have dealt with Kaiser at Harbor City or Dr. Zane or Dr. Belzberg. I would like to hear about your experiences. I am a Kaiser patient who is anxiously awaiting my consultation appointment and need to hear something about these surgeons. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jessica

I have no regrets at all about having RNY.  I have had no complications.  As far as worrying about the future if it wasn't for this surgery I would have never had a future with the health issues I had.  I didn't know about VSG when I had my surgery.  I might would have considered it but doubt my insurance would have paid for it.  So I would have went with RNY anyways.  You have to decide what is right for you and what you are willing to do to be successful.  You sound like you are doing everything you should be doing in order to make the right decision for you.

I am with Michele on this one...and here are my reasons why.   I belong to another support group for those who have had wls.  Most of the people that are on there do say that they would do it again...But...there are also a good number of them that are aging...and the problems that they have encountered range from bowel problems, to osteoperosis, aniemia, and many other conditions...Many suffer pain...and the sad part about this is that their bodies cannot absorb medications to relieve the pain...One must consider, as patients get older, their needs for medications increase...not a heck of a lot of seniors out there that aren't on some sort of medication...Your body will not respond the way a normal body would because you have messed with your wiring. Hope you take this into consideration before making a final decision. Ani

Shade' I just wanted to make sure you have researched the VSG..Weight loss comparable to the RNY without the malabsorbtion issues and the surgery is as easy as the LapBand without the fills. Checkout the FAQs on the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Forum.  And if the results end up not being enough (I have not heard of anyone) it can be converted to a Band, RNY or DS. All WLS works for someone but not all WLS is right for everyone.

I had some serious complications from my RNY, which caused me to end up in the intensive care unit.  As I was lying there, basically immobile, people would ask me if I regretted the surgery.  I would tell them "That depends, how much do I weigh today?"   Even while I was having the complications, I did not regret the surgery.  And I don't regret it today.  I went from 220 pounds to 127 pounds in a year.  I ran a 5K and I'm healthy.  I wear a size 4 or 6.  There is no way I could have lost 93 pounds without RNY and I don't regret it for one minute.  To answer your question, I would do it all over again!

I am only a month out, and it is hard, I will not kid you.  I regret I was too weak to do this weight loss alone...but I tried for years and finally the health issues from my weight overwhelmed me.  I had to do something.  I do not regret the surgery.

Hi Jeremy! I've actually been researching nutritional deficiencies a lot lately. Since I just turned 20 years old, I fear that I'll one day end up with a major deficiency, which I absolutely do not want. Did you have any knowledge about the non-absorption part of RNY? Did you develop something due to a lack of knowledge or even after taking all your supplements? Or do you just not like the idea of not absorbing vital nutrients properly?
