Topic: RE: I hate my band.
Let me tell you all I was where you are all at ..... hating my band!!  I was banded in aug of 05 and struggled for the first 2 years!  I had 4 hospitalizations in the first 6 months because my stomach swelled shut with any Pbing or if I drank or ate anything cold.  I went thru severe depression and also attempted suicide!  I am not proud of it but I hit rock bottom and had noone to turn to! It took me about 6 months to recover and I finally have in the last 6 months learned to love my band and my new life.  I can't say it is easy and I miss Food very much.....pizza, burgers just old times stuffing my face for hours on end. I am an addict ...a certified food addict....but with someone to talk to and support of others who have been banded I have been able to accept my band with great success! So you know it is not hopeless ....but I respect you all for the decisions you need to make for yourselves.....don't ever let yourself get to the point I did...ask for help!! But always know you can have success in anything you do.....I did finally after almost 3 years! I started at 393 and a sized 30/32...now 200 lbs and size 12/14.......this is the smallest I have been since 2nd grade...... love your life with our without your band...I know it is hard and if I can be of any support please just send me a PM take care  jan

Topic: RE: Converting from LapBand to RNY Bypass???
All I can say is be patient unless you are having problems with your band.  I have a friend that converted to the sleeve because of an infection from her port that spread to her band and made it so it had to be removed.  She has hated it ever since has gained weight back and misses her resctriction. So you know...I was banded 8/19/05 and to date have lost 193 lbs....I started at 393 lbs and this morning hit 200 lbs.  I want to lose another 10 and I will be at my goal.....I am 5'11 so I will never be 120lbs and a size 5. I am a happy size 12 or 14 and after hating my band for the first 2 years love it and don't ever want to lose it!! take care and good luck jan

Let me first say I am sorry about your struggles, but I totally understand!  I was banded in Aug. of 2005 and up until about 6 months ago I hated my band and wanted it out more than I wanted to be thin.  I have great success with the band actually better than most, but I hated everything about the band. I went thru many of nights where I would order an entire pizza wanting to eat then entire thing but getting stuck after a few bites......so I would chew it up an spit it out...until I finished the entire thing.  It was gross but it really helped me with the emotional issues with my band.   Unlike most I have only had 1 fill in all my years with the band, because it has been way to tight from the beginning.  The doctor said I should have never had the 4cc band placed it was way to small for as heavy as I was. I started at 393 lbs and now weight around 200 lbs.  I want to get to about 190 and will be happy.  I also never told many people about my band since I had the fear of failure!  I did not want to be under the watchful eye of everyone!  Now it is frustrating because people always say you must have had RNY and I say NO I did not! So I guess in my experience don't give up.....you will find your peace with the band it just takes some of us longer than others....If I can help at all send me a PM take care jan

I am still pre op for a few more weeks but had the same set of concerns.  I am going with the rny because   1.  I don't trust gadgets...Every time I got a tummy ache or cramp I would be worried that the band was messed up... 2.  Bodys heal....After the initial recovery  my body will hopefully adapt and  be just fine...Bodies are amazing machines with lots of built in survival stuff ...It will ajust. 3.  I hate going to doctors and the thought of fine tuning the fill procedure would be awful.   I am not that in touch with my body, let alone a gizmo...how could i ever know when to stop...I would probably give up trying and accept less that remarkable results. 4.  Apparently the detached stomach will forget to get hungry and stop sending signals...A biggie!  hard enough to tell head hunger from body hunger either way... 5. I feel like I can re learn my own body ...i don't want a doctor or device in the middle of the process. 6.  I don't have time to wait and don't want to risk failure with the lap band.   I have bad knees, hips and so much back pain...Im 50 years old...I am all about getting the weight off now why I can still live to reap the benefits. 7.  If I ever felt the port or band I would probably freak and feel like something out of Alien... I have had major surgery on my spine before...It took me quite a while to trust that all the added hardwear was where it belonged and working.     I finally know now that it is ...but even the fact that it is there makes me uneasy.   Good luck with your decision...YOU  ASKED!

Hello there.  I am currently a patient pending approval for gastric bypass.  I truly want to understand what happened as your message post indicated one could ask.  Therefore, I am asking in hopes that I as well as others can take whatever precautionary measures they individually feel are necessary to make the best decision for themselves.  Perhaps your story would help me make my decisions appropriately.

Topic: Freedom!-Moving on beyond the lapband
To make a long story short, I got banded last June 26th,2007. I lost about 32 pounds. Worked out 6 days a week and at times, twice a day when I plateaued. I started voimting alot after my last fill earlier this month about 3 weeks ago. My chest was really tight and hurting. The PA took out the saline and I feel normal. Normal as in, nothing hurts going down my stomach. And that feels good. I have thought long and hard about my band. I would like to get it removed, but insurance will only cover it if it malfunctions, slips or something. Otherwise, I have to pay for it. I don't want anymore surgery. I have spent 75% of my life dieting, hating my body and feeling bad about myself. Last year at the age of 37 I finally began enjoying life outside of my weight. I felt really bad that the band isn't for me. But, everything isn't for everyone. I weigh around 244 and I would like to lose 60 by next year. Like a pound a week. So I am thinkng of rejoining weigh****chers. And this time giving it my all! Before I would get depressed over unrealistic goal of losing 3 or 4 pds a week. I feel alot better about myself. I realize at 38, that life is more than my weight and I cannot sit around the sidelines anymore! Waiting to do this and that whenever I lose x-amount of weight. It is total bondage and I am getting free! Anybody else out there had their band removed and paid for it yourself? Thanks for letting me share my story.
