Rita S.  I am appalled reading your responses to this poor woman who has lost her mother. Why do you keep going on and on and on about what she has posted. You have said enough. You keep saying you are not picking on her but YOU ARE. All of her responses to you have been polite. Yours not so much.

Hi there Rachel (I'm Rachel too!) I'm 4 years post op and I can tell you, it does get better. But I laid on the bed most of the day and cried myself to sleep at night for the first month. I didn't have trouble with food persay, I just really missed it and got really depressed. figuring out my new eating regeim was tough too.  I didn't start feeling like myself until 3 mos. out. Looking back I could say that now, but at the time, I didn't really know what was going on, I just new I felt bad and hated life and found any reason to justify my mood. What kind of post op diet does your doctor have you on? I was on liquids for a while, then soft and eventually solids. Remember, you just had major stomach surgery. Your insides are swollen, so the wrong food will really hurt. I'm sorry for what you are going through, and look forward to hearing about you post op diet. Wishing you well, Rachel

Topic: RE: Freedom!-Moving on beyond the lapband
Hello.  I had surgery a year ago and am having my band out next week.  I was never very successful which kind of surprises me because I thought it would work just great for me.  I spent the first 7 months throwing up daily (my after care was non-existent) before I found out that wasn't the way the band should work.  Finally after a lot of fills and unfills, the people at my surgery center discovered that my stomach is overly sensitive, and that each time they accessed my port to add or check the fluid, my stomach would swell shut.  Then I developed nausea and reflux.  I went to a new surgeon who did testing.  My band was apparently placed way too high, so I never had a pouch, just the lower esophagus as a "pouch" - I also have gastritis, esophagitis, duodenal spasms and gall stones. I wanted my lapband out when they remove the gall bladder.  Insurance has fought me like crazy, even with a letter of medical necessity.  My doctor is doing both surgeries together soon, and I'll fight my insurance until they pay for it. Good luck.

I'm still preop, but for what I've been reading, it seems very common to feel down and have regrets when one is just a few week from surgery. Remember, right now you still just recovering, adapting to a new way of eating, and its mostly pain. Also, you are yet to see a difference on the mirror... to early on your weight loss. This shall pass. Hang in there!

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and this is the worst thing i feel like i couldve ever done.  I cant eat or drink anything without getting sick i feel like this RNY has ruined my life.  I regret my decision every single day.  Someone tell me this COULD get better bc if it stays like this i fear i will have died just to fit in a normal casket... There I changed it as i do not want to come off as an "alarmist" That is what the doctors have not been able to explain.  Once she got the hypoglaucemia it was down hill from there.

Not exactly true based on your original post: Post Date: 10/31/07 7:58 pm
gastric bypass surgery dr. barker of north texas performed.  Not only did she die but she suffered a very long death because of it.  If you are thinking about getting the gastric bypass....think again...please, ask any details you want.
You stated very clearly to "Think again" if considering this surgery. That's not the words of someone who is "only trying to give people warning signs to look out for once they do have the surgery". Two different agendas. I think your first post makes it clear what you're trying to do by posting. If you have a valid point to make, use facts. But trying to scare the crap out of people because you are upset your mother died after this surgery is no way to go about it.  Again, I'm not attacking you, just confronting your use of emotionally based information and lack of true medical facts that explain your mother's death. In what direct way did WLS cause your mother's death?
