Topic: RE: my mom mary wright died from complications due to a
I have to say that I have been an official member of this web site since 2003. I have also been a member of the yahoo group about gastric bypass surgery that goes "wrong".   There are people who have gastric bypass through no fault of their own that do have the complications and serious side effects and terrible consequences of the surgery.   Are there complications of any surgery?  Of course there are. However, these significant complications are directly related to the procedure itself.   I have also read from people on this site and many others who quite literally post their long list of health problems and then say that they do not blame the surgery at ALL and they LOVE THEIR SURGICAL procedure.  Low blood pressure, severe hypoglycemia, hair loss, teeth loss, the list is endless.  When is the last time a laparscopic cholecystectomy had teeth loss, hair loss, and resultant hypoglycemia?   I think what I have noticed is that there are some people who hated so badly being obese or fat that they would not THINK of blaming or criticizing the surgical procedure that produced their life long dream of being that thin person that society loves, that society accepts, and that people respect.  They would not THINK of saying one negative or bad thing about the "surgical procedure that they love and adore".  Or the surgical procedure that made them feel so much physically better and emotionally better. So, when somebody else lists the complications of the surgery being death, severe malnutrition, hypotension, or any other problem it is like you called their child or mother an UGLY STINKING HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING.   It is defensive.  It is intolerant.  It is dishonest.  It is selfish.   Share your successes!  Share your personal stories!  But, have mercy for others who did not have the outcome that you had, and are not in love and adoration of their surgical procedure. Pride comes before a fall.   Thanks, Kathy IGH, MN

I'm 6 weeks out and I have had the same feelings you are having. I'm at the point now where I can eat and I get stronger everyday but I am still unsure if I should have done this to myself. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but I'm sure I will eventually.

There is a lady on line named melting Momma- not sure how she spells it, but she is now hypoglycemic too. She is very interesting and communicative. I do not know her, but she has been very open about her struggles too. Good luck-

Topic: RE: DS Regrets??
I haven't had surgery and I am NOT having DS.  I have read a few people here who are further out who are suffering fromreal malabsorption issues, but from what I have read you will be ok, with complete compliance with the supplements.  that is the main thing with DS is you HAVE to take your supplements with absolute strict compliance. good luck- and my best wishes for your surgery

I completely agree with Rachel.  I was really depressed for the first month.  I had a blood clot develop after the first week and was bed ridden for about 4 weeks after that.  Then I developed a pretty bad case of anemia due to the blood thinner, the fact that my insides hadn't healed all the way and the doctor overshot my clotting time BIG TIME.  I thought that had made the worst mistake of my life.  But, after I could get up and walk again and then go back to work and then start going to the gym--well, I've already noticed a difference in the quality of my life.  I'm digging out clothes that I had bought and grew out of.  People are complimenting me on the fact I lost weight and that I look better.  At this point in the game, I wouldn't trade it.  I'm only 10 weeks out and I know things are going to be even better.  I truly hope you start feeling better and I bet your mood will turn around. :) Best of luck, David

Topic: RE: Can't Decide Between Lap Band and Bypass...OPINIONS, PLEASE!!!!
I was just browsing and found your post. I just wanted to share my thoughts. I know myself VERY well. A lifetime of dieting (since about 10 or so) has taught me that I can't stick to a diet and I knew I wasn't going to change my eating habits long enough to be successful  with a band or a RNY. I was about to chose not having surgery at all instead of risk failure when I learned about the DS. I knew it was for me as soon as I heard about it! I researched it for over a year. I guess I brought out the big guns right away and it worked like a charm. Life is good, labs are just about perfect and I can eat what I want (protein first!)  and lose weight with no effort. The DS does all the work. Oh, one more thing. I know 4 people in real life with bands. All 4 lost about 25-30 lbs in the first year, then stopped. I know 2 people IRL with RNY that are still obese. Plus Randy Jackson, Al Roker and Carnie Wilson (the 3 celeb RNYers that I know about) are still pretty big in my opionion.  I wanted to be thin and healthy and I easily got there. Check out my profile (tons of pictures!) and feel free to PM me with any questions! Best of luck with your decision.

First off, this convo ended days ago, so you're a bit late in the reply. Second off, I'm not attacking anyone, I'm asking legitimate questions of someone who is sending a strong message "Don't have this surgery" without backing it up with facts. I have all the sympathy in the world for the loss of her mother, but this post isn't about sympathy, it's about a warning to others, and I AM one of those people who are contemplating surgery, so forgive me if I have honest questions and would like to have educated answers and not emotionally based statements.  If she simply wanted support for the loss of her mother she can say that. I'm one of the most compassionate people you will ever meet. BUT, her original post, before editing, was a WARNING to all pre-op people to not get this surgery. And hell, if someone is going to WARN me not to get a life-saving surgery (and in my case it is) then I'd like to know WHY. I don't care if you think I am polite or not. You don't know me. Maybe if you had read her ORIGINAL post and not the newly edited one you'd have a better understanding of what this was about. And if you find it upsetting, then there are many other posts for you to read here. You're welcome to block me if you find my posts so rude. I could seriously care less how you feel.
