Alert re: confidentiality

I have learned the hard way that any information written here on our profiles can and will show as free for all on the internet search engines.Please spread the word to all OH members. (i know many of you already know this. I just want others to prevent what happened to me) My entire profile with all of my personal journaling showed up for anyone to read on google and every other search engine I could bring up. I was horrified my private thoughts were broadcasted for all to read. Please do not let this happen to anyone else. Do not use your full real name. Protect yourself. I made the mistake of thinking that OH would somehow protect me from this breach. Do not let this happen to anyone else. Spread the word. Protect yourselfs. Jen

Hey Jen, same thing happened to me. I googled my name and there it was right on the 1st page. My whole profile and journaling was up for grabs. I have since deleted my profile. I printed it out first so that I can go back and re-enter it under a different name when I get the time. But, you are right, be carefull and don't use your full name. Good post! take care Linda

Linda, change your screen name. Even if you delete your profile, your posts can come up. I did a search on your name to be sure of it myself. Here are the results. Sometimes it doesn't come up only in name searches. I did a search on the DS surgery in Japan, and lo and behold one of my post came up because I am in Japan and I had typed a message on the DS board. There it was and my picture right there. So I changed my picture on my posts. However, if you are not concerned about anyone reading your info, don't change your name. Best way to go.Is to plan on anything you put on the web ANYWHERE! has the possibility of being seen by any one and everyonethis includes i.m they can be comrpomised too.So be sure of what you send or post are things you would not mind being in the"public eye".

Also if some one has you phone number, all they have to do is enter it into google and they have a address and even a map right to your door!
