Okay, I found the right area.. I wish they would show the complication forums as part of the main forum too.. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone is considering Lap RNY reversal or have done it successfully? Do you know much about it as far as who does it in the country and in the west coast and if it allows you to go back to the way things were? Thanks. - Chris

Hello Chris, Glad to see that you found this site too. I actually found it from your post on the main messageboard. I actually had one of the two doctors I was telling you about early call me this evening. He sounded very incouraging. He told me that he has done many reversals and the main complication is nausea that generally goes away! He also told me that you can go back to the way things were, eating what you want when you want and that includes sugar. He told me that if insurance will not cover it (which I intend to call about tomorrow) then the cost will be around $20,000 but he said it can be done. He also told me that he is going to talk to my pcp tomorrow and make sure that the depression is not clouding my judgement and if everything works out he can do the surgery in a couple of weeks!!!! I know I am not getting the nutrients my body needs to sustain itself. I talked to my husband about this evening but he wasn't as excited as I was. He thinks I need to give this time. I am not sure if he is really against it or if he acted that way because he is sick. Anyway, if I decide to do it he will be there for me. He is so great and supportive. Are you in CA? If so, I truly hope you find a surgeon or look into a plane ride from there to houston, tx or NY. I will ask this surgeon I am talking to if he knows of someone in that neck of the woods. Good Luck.

Yes RNY is completley reversible. They don't do it that often but it can be done. It is a hard and difficult surgery and not that many doctors are trained to perform it. Your stomach is not cut off, it's still there just unattached so to speak.

All doctors who perform wls can also perform the take down (reversal)..they just don't all admit to it or do it because alot don't want to bring their success rate down. Check out the [email protected] group for more valuable information about wls reversals.

They are all apparently trained how (or at least given the information) but most will not do them. It's extremely difficult to find surgeons willing to do them. Nancy

It's not quite "completely" reversible...the anatomy will never be back 100% to it's original form due to the original surgery but yes, takedowns can be done but it's extremely difficult to find surgeons who will do them. And some people actually have had their remnant stomachs removed...thankfully most RNY surgeons don't do that but some do. Nancy

I have heard that it can be done but the surgery is potentially more complicated and dagerous than the original RNY. Make sure you find the absolute best doctor that you can. Good luck, Lynn Banded 9/12/05 300/275/230/140

Yes a reversal can be done. I had to have one because I spent 1 1/2 years not being able to eat anything and only drink about 4 oz total a day. Even though your body isn't exactly the same as it was before the original surgery, it's almost back to normal, at least mine is.
