Thanks Lisa, But you said that you started to feel that you were always hungry around your 6month and I started to feel it during my 2nd-3rd week out. But I think I'm getting better now that I'm able to eat different type of foods. I do listen to myself more, and I ask myself if I really need to eat again? It seems that I need that "Hand to Mouth Motion" So I buy Sunflower seeds.I know that I'm not suppose to have alot of salt, but I crave the seeds.I thank you for your info and I know that it will get easier. I am 13 years post RNY and my hunger is almost entirely related to how many simple carbs I eat. If I include a little fat and protein in each meal and snack, I don't even THINK about food much. As soon as I start eating...say...popcorn (low fat), low fat potato chips, etc. I get hungry 2 hours later. I feel weak and shaky...not stomache hunger. I can eat oatmeal if I add 1/2oz walnuts, etc. MY best snacks are string cheese, cottage cheese (I like it with sf jello and walnuts), 1 oz of nuts (yes I have to measure!) and Zone Bars. I don't know how many people on these boards are "mature" bypass patients like me, just thought I would share.

Rosie, I am out 3yrs. Only time I get hungry is when I eat carbs also. I stay away from most grains because I have a reaction to them. (food sensitive). Wheat makes me bloat and I feel like a mac truck has run over me and my weight can go up 5lbs over nite, So I avoid all grains. I also have to watch how much veggies I eat because if my carb goes up so does my weight. Try giving up some of your carbs and eat more protien and see if you are still hungry. Darlene

Ya know I find myself wanting to snack instead of having a real meal. I remind myself that this is a NO No! I just dont feel like cooking anymore since the surgery. I guess I dont find it fun anymore! I dont know. I just dont like food anymore. I eat because I feel hungry or because I get light headed but other then that I rather have SF popsicles. I know this post is a bit old but I had to respond when I read it. You had this surgery to get healthy, eating snacks is not the right answer. No wonder you are always hungry. Make yourself eat at least 3 times a day but eat the right foods and I think your hunger will disappear. I don't like to cook much since wls either, but I find if I cook pork chops, steak, ribs and package them in plastic containers that I will microwave them when it's meal time. I leave some in the refrigerator and freeze the rest to be taken out later. It doesn't matter if I'm not in the mood for protein, that's what it takes to keep me healthy. I use sauces when heating the meat like bar-b-que, A1 or Heines 57. It adds flavor to an otherwise dull meal. Sometimes on weekends I get lazy and eat almonds and diet coke for a meal. I find I'm always hungry when I do that and it would be so easy to revert to my old snacking ways. My surgeon says dense protein keeps us full between meals, he doesn't believe in protein shakes, bars, etc after six weeks. To be honest I find I do much better when I eat the dense protein. Example: Steak, pork chop, ribs are dense. Hamburger, chili, etc are not dense. I eat the non dense protein on occasion but the dense protein does keep me full longer. This is the best chance you will ever have to lose the weight and keep it off. The sad news is if you don't use your tool properly you will most likely either not lose or end up regaining the weight back. This is about more than having surgery, you are responsible for making it work by eating right and exercising. Best of luck! Hi Pat, I'm doing better now! I try to get in all the protein that I can in one day. I try to stay away from carbs and I dont drink while I eat. That was hard for me to do in the beginning but its getting easier for me. I started to exercise and drink a lot of water, but for the 4th of July I had a lot of Sprite, because they ran out of water and I was so thirsty that I had sprite all day long! I felt so bloated. I know that I'm suppose to stay away from that stuff, which was the first time since surgery and I hope it will be the last. I am always thirsty now,I think the hunger thing was just a faze! Thanks for the reply and take care. Rosie

Hello there, I had my RNY on May1,2006, I have lost 155lbs. I gained back about 5-7 lbs.I cant drink the protein shakes and I have read that someone has 95g of protein a day. How the heck can I have that much protein? What should I eat? I seem to snack alot lately, I eat a bagel with cream cheese every morning, no lunch, then a full dinner. Tonight I had 3 small pieces of ham and baked beans with a salad. I ate it all. Then at night I have a full bag of popcorn (light).I am so confused on what to eat, how to get protein, and what to look for when I go shopping. Do you think you can help? Thank you , Joannie
