HELP!!!! Is this all there is for me?
Hey guys this is my 1st post to this message board......so I'm hoping to find some answers. I don't have any problems no nausea, no vomiting, no dumping but, I can eat more than most post ops and I'm not losing like most post ops. I have lost only 36.5 lbs. I drink 10-14 glasses of water a day. Exercise a minimum of 5 days a week for 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours per day. I eat low carb and I get 70-80 grams of protein per day. I have only lost 1 lb. so far this month.......I feel like this is not working for me. I know the closer you get to goal the harder it is but I'm still at least 83 lbs. from goal!
I've been to see my surgeon about this and he doesn't know what the problem is. I've done an upper GI and am doing a scope soon to check things out. Has anyone on this board had similar issues and did they resolve, how? I hope someone has an answer for me I am really starting to get totally bummed about this and now even wonder was WLS for me?
Thanks for your help - Debbie
Hey dont feel bad, I do know what you are going though. I am 2 months out and have been on a plateau for 4 weeks now. It basically sucks! I am starting to regret that I got it! Someone said that it might be called Slow Losers while others breeze by and lose twice as much. We both probably should be thank ful that at least we are down inside of up! Good luck!
Hello Debbie,
I think what you're experiencing is a plateau. I was stuck on one for almost a month and I didn't stress over it but kept my routine up and eventually the weight begain coming off again. You must remember we didn't get this way overnight and some people are going to be slow loosers. I would recommend you keeping your routine up and eventually you'll start noticing the weight loss. Also remember to measure your loss via inches...you will be surprised.
I hope all goes well for you and you'll get rid of those 83 pounds before you know it !

Hey Debbie, Don't feel bad, we always tend to try to find blame in ourselves when things to go the way we think they should. I'm two months out and have been on a plateau for 3 weeks so I know exactly how you feel. I even almost eliminated all carbs for a week to see if that made a difference and guess what? NOT!!!! Now I have lost a few inches, my tummy is tightening up, my wedding rings are falling off my fingers, so I guess our bodies just take a break from the weightloss to readjust. Give it time, a lot of folks go through the same thing. Its funny, I eat less now then I did at 1 month and still at the plateau. But I'm not stressing, it is frustrating to say the least but I'm glad I've lost the 42 lbs I've lost already, without even really trying. Good luck and God bless you with peace of mind and soul.
Someone on the California message board posted an article today about how different body types lose weight. People who carry most of their weight in the abdomin (sp) area tend to lose weight twice as fast as people who carry a majority of their weight in their hips and thighs. That is why men drop weight so quickly. They carry very little to no weight on their hips and thighs. I don't know what your body type is, but that has been a problem for me since I started. My weightloss has been really slow, but pretty steady.
I read so many profiles of people who started out slow and think the surgery is not working out for them. As you read thru the timeline in their profile, you notice that after they are 1, 2 + years post op they reach their goal weight.
I am actualy thankful for the slow weght loss. I will work hard to get all this weight off. I didn't put my body and family thru hell to fail. But the longer it takes me, the longer I have to develop the long term eating habits that I wil need to maintain the weightloss.
Good luck to you,
Liz
Let me guess Debbie. You weren\\\'t an overeater in the first place and you dieted all the way to obesity. You have lots of will power and a restricted diet is normal for you. You are good at sticking to a food plan and you don\\\'t cheat much. Am I right?
I read your profile and there wasn\\\'t much on your pre-op eating. Anyway, let me know. Just send me an e-mail.
Hi Debbie!
I am only 1 month out, so I am by no means an expert! But, I know what you are going through. At two weeks out I had lost 6 pounds. I was in the middle of 2 friends. One had her surgery on the 2nd and lost over 30 pounds, then my on the 4th, and then my last friend on March 8th had lost over 25! I was feeling very low and depressed. I actually wondered why I put myself through all of that to lose 6 pounds!? I kept posting on my states message board and the south of the border forum. (I was a self pay in Mexico) Anyway, they all told me it sounded like I needed to up my water, my protien, and my calories. My body thought I was starving and it held onto everything! I did, and by the end of the month I had lost 18. Still not fast, but that is an average of 4.5 pounds a week. I also know a lot depends of how old you are and what kinds of medications you were on prior to surgery. I was on 12 meds. One of them was for high blood pressure and was also a diurectic. If you are still on meds that can influence your weight loss as well. Thankfully, I am now off all 12 meds! Praise God! So, even though I wish I were losing faster, I try to remember that I did LOSE 18 pounds, not gain, and I won't ever deal with them again! Hang in there! If you are not losing pounds, check inches. I lost over 30 & 3/4 inches! You will lose!
