When you ate the tomatoe is having pain always like that with every food you eat? I don't like anything irritating my stomache, thats why I always take a anti-diarreha pill after eating things like fried foods, chinese food or pizza. What about mashed potatoes? Did you have a problem with eating that?

The tomatoes were all I noticed at the beginning. I was so freaking afraid, I was very careful with what I tried. I was about 3-4 months out when I tried them again. I typically dont eat them even in a salad, but I can get spaghetti sauce and salsa with no problems. Bread made me really yucky at first. Not a dumping kind of thing, but it was like one bite of a sandwhich and I was overly full. I still watch it with the bread, but now I just take half the bread off the sandwhich and eat it open face style. Or if I get like a chicken sandwhich, I will just have them serve it without the bun. With all of those carb crazy diets being so popular, waitresses don't look at me like I'm nuts when I ask for a sandwhich with no bun. Pretty much nothing I've had has made me dump. I've had a sharp pain from time to time with sugar. I can eat potatoes of any style. I had scallopped potatoes last night and potato salad with lunch today. Bread is pretty much the only "carb" food that bothers me. And the bother just really is an overly full feeling and I dont get to eat anything else! Fried foods ALWAYS send me to the toilet. I will eat something every once in awhile and it wont send me running, but typically, within an hour I am on the john. My calcium chewables well consitpate me if I eat 4 or more in a day (I'm only supposed to have 3 a day, but they are good and sometimes I get carried away). So when I get constipated, I will just eat something greasey. I've taken corectol and drank prune juice and neither helped. Ate a bite of fried chicken, and within an hour my problem was over! You will learn that everyone is different. Some people can get away with more fat, others can get away with more sugars. All of my friends think its so great that I can eat anything and everything, I dont think its great because I would like to have that gun pointed to my head making me be a good girl all the time. Its too easy to fall off the wagon when I know eating something bad isn't going to bother me. Leland Lap RNY GB 08/04/04 295/283/177/150

Well I know I have a problem with sweets, especially cheesecake and Suzy Q's (love them). And once in awhile have a taste for a heated brownie with vanilla ice cream melting all over it. OMG!!! I have to stop!! lol

I'm glad you're doing better. I thought I'd post this for others that may be having problems. The earlier posts about taking baby steps were good. I am pre-op lap band, but my brother is 5 months post-op RNY (12/17/04). He has lost 70 pounds in that time, but since he has learning disabilities and dyslexia and I've been concerned that he is getting adequate nutrition. I asked him yesterday about what he was doing. He said that initially, he was having difficulty getting water in, so he focused on that aspect of the diet. Now, he is working on getting his protein in and is learning how to do that. I'm really proud of him. All I can say (based on his story) is changing everything all at once is a little overwhelming. Maybe one thing at a time - like he is doing - may work better for some than trying to juggle tons of new rules all at once. Also, as a side note, I appreciate this message board. Thanks for everyone's honesty about their struggles. My prayers are with you. Teresa
