Has Anyone Had There Surgery Reversed?

Hi I'd like to know if anyone has had their surgery reversed and if so did the complications they were having (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting) as well as others improve or stay the same? I have been having complications since I had my surgery and would very much like to have it reversed but do not want to go through it if the reversal will not improve the quality of my life. Thanks for all replies.

Sorry you are having complications.  Do you mind elaborating on some of them?  I guess what I'm trying to understand and convey is initially the nausea, diarrhea and vomiting are part of the process as your new pouch gets acclimated with the changes.  It doesn't last forever for the majority of post-ops.

I wish you the best, I was one of the fortunate ones that had minimal problems initially the majority of the adjustment for me was drinking water and feeling nauseated.

I am trying to convice my gf not to do it, but people sometimes lose their minds over good marketing.

"Of greatest concern are the effects of long-term nutritional deficiencies, which are rarely discussed realistically. The neurological decline and aging seen after bariatric surgeries is especially rapid and results from multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies, said Dr. Ernsberger. Both the stomach and small intestines are critical for absorbing many nutrients, including B-vitamins, calcium, iron, vitamin D and protein. Even taking supplements in multiple times the recommended amounts doesn’t help because the surgeries eliminate the proper function of the stomach and gastrointestinal system, he said. Hence, malnutrition problems are not uncommon, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and include anemias, osteoporosis, loss of teeth, blindness and, in a reported 16% of cases, even neurological and brain damage. We are seeing the return of nutritional deficiency diseases of starvation in formerly healthy fat people that had become rare in Western societies and are typically only seen in underdeveloped regions of the world.

Hi,

You have made an extremely excellent point! You said, "people sometimes lose their minds over good marketing", and you couldn't be more right.  As having been heavy, thin, now heavy again, I know exactly what you mean in this specific incidence.  People like me have tried so many times with so many methods to lose weight and we fail so many times.  It's not just the methods. There's so, so much more than that.  But, when you see a doctor standing there with the "answer" to all our problems with one surgery that will work, we see the solution, but are so desperate at this point, we are willing to skim over the fine print & complications including the ones that say 'possible death". We don't think it can possibly happen to us or any of the complications.  I certainly didn't.  And wow, did I get hit hard with reality.  Everything you've written in your message is true down to the "T". I wish you and your girlfriend the best in whatever decision you both come to. Either way, keep on with the support.

have you posted about this on your surgery board? I have no idea how common this is but they might have good info for you.

hope you find the answers!

Hi Jackie,

Move over.....if you find someone to reverse your surgery I'd sure like to find someone in PA to reverse mine.

The complications I've had in three years since it had been done are just not worth it.

I have never been able to get food down and keep it down and now I wound up with a ruptured ulcer and just learned that I am producing way too much acid.  I have had one surgery after another including a feeding tube.....I am nearly 60 years old and look like an old lady as I lost so much weight I look like a prune.

It's sad, when we want something to help us look good that only winds up making us look horrid!

Hello!

How are you doing?

Have you made a decision and had your bypass reversed?

I am also considering this and I'm 95% leaning towards doing it.

I noticed that you are in MS and Dr. Richardson did your surgery.

Dr. Lavin is in New Orleans, Slidell, and Mandeville/Covington.  He is a national proctor of laparscopic bypass surgery (meaning he teaches other doctors all around the country).  He did my surgery and I hand picked him over anyone in the USA.  He will do my reversal.  The only other person that I would trust to do it is Dr. Warden -- one of his partners.

Slidell might be a viable option for you.

I live in Houston now and will travel to have surgery with them.  The best team I can garner would be Lavin and Warden (who did my initial bypass).  Having both of them is having the best.

I hope you are doing well.

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I had to have gastric by-pass 7 months ago only because I need back surgery.  I have regretted it every since. I had leakage and had to have a stent put in and taken out.  Was throwing up my bowels and developed a hernia that they had to take care of 10 days after the first surgery.  I have to go in to the hospital every 2 weeks to get my stomach stretched which works for about 2 days.Today the doc said they will have to put in a feeding tube and maybe another stent hopefully next week.  Then I will get a revision once I get my straight and protein back up. I don't even know what the revision will be like and not looking forward to it.  Don't know what it means. But if I can eat and drink I will do most anything. My heart is not strong enough to have the revision right now. All because I am malnourished.
Anyway, I don't know if it will improve your quality of life.  I sure hope so.
Good luck.

If this is the best you have to offer why don't you just keep it to yourself. You are wasting board space.
