Only you can answer that question for you. Of course you are going to have pain after surgery. You've just put your body through a tremendous ordeal! Follow your surgeon's recommendations and you should be okay. I know that diarrhea/constipation is fairly normal after surgery. Also, don't forget that they probably pumped you up full of air to see around in there and shoulder blade (back) and rib cage pain is a given since they were pushing things around in there.

I assume that you had this surgery to improve your quality of life. If that is the case, then make sure that you stick to your surgeon's diet plan and get a lot of exercise. You probably have a ton of gas, too. The more you walk, that faster that will pass and it will start to decrease in volume, too.  Of course, if there is something that is really bothering you and you can't get in touch with your surgeon, then it is the smart thing to do to go to the ER. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Just remember to ALWAYS tell them that you've had RNY surgery and who your surgeon is.

Good luck, I hope that you are feeling better really soon.
