With my weight history, I didn't see the point.  I started gaining at puberty.  Extreme dieting and athletics through high school would slow down my gaining, but I just couldn't lose.  This continued through adulthood and I got bigger and biger.  It was this history that made me know that I needed more than restriction.  Eating less got me nowhere.  I needed to alter the way that my over-efficient body metabolized food.  The DS was just the ticket for me. The ticket is really looking at yourself and how your body has reacted to your efforts in the past to lose weight.  Did your body fight back, or did you?  Did you never feel full, or were you like me?  Answering questions like these will lead you to the right selection.

I was a revision to DS.  I had all sorts of complications.  I knew the risks going into the surgery and did not expect to have any complications as I had absolutely no co morbidities prior to surgery.  I was self pay in Mexico.  Dr Ungson did a great job, care was terrific.  I had a leak in Mexico, Dr. U fixed it  and when I came home I had another leak etc, etc.etc.  It has been  a financial disaster for me, but I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN A MINUTE.  I am extremely happy with my results although I will never be less than a size 14-16.  I eat anything and everything I want with no problems other than some looser stools if I eat to much candy.  I have never in my life been able to eat what I can eat now without gaining tons of weight.  My hubby even had the DS after going through all the complications with me.  His revision was uneventful and he reached goal within 8 months.  He constantly eats in order to maintain his weight.  He was diabetic prior to surgery, had high BP, took alot of pills every day and now his diabetes is cured, his A1c is normal and he only has to take 1 med for BP.  He no longer takes medication for cholesterol.  We both take our vitamins and calcium daily and our labs are great.  My liver function is a little high but the doc says that is because of the new plumbing - no worries.

So absolutely no regrets from us other than having to make payments to all the providers forever!

My story is very similar to that - had surgery in Brazil with Dr. Antelmo and thought I would sail through without a hitch because I was a relative lightweight at 243 pounds and no comorbidities, but I sprung a leak when I got back to the US, spent 2 weeks in hospital and lived with a drain in my gut for over a month.  But I too have no regrets.  I've lost 43 pounds effortlessly in 12 weeks and I know it just gets better from here.  I also have elevated bilirubin and my new US doc is about to put me through 3 days worth of tests to find out why, but I know everything will be fine - and if it isn't, I'll deal with it because the DS was the best choice I ever made.
