I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and this is the worst thing i feel like i couldve ever done.  I cant eat or drink anything without getting sick i feel like this RNY has ruined my life.  I regret my decision every single day.  Someone tell me this COULD get better bc if it stays like this i fear i will have died just to fit in a normal casket... I'm still preop, but for what I've been reading, it seems very common to feel down and have regrets when one is just a few week from surgery. Remember, right now you still just recovering, adapting to a new way of eating, and its mostly pain. Also, you are yet to see a difference on the mirror... to early on your weight loss. This shall pass. Hang in there!

Hi there Rachel (I'm Rachel too!) I'm 4 years post op and I can tell you, it does get better. But I laid on the bed most of the day and cried myself to sleep at night for the first month. I didn't have trouble with food persay, I just really missed it and got really depressed. figuring out my new eating regeim was tough too.  I didn't start feeling like myself until 3 mos. out. Looking back I could say that now, but at the time, I didn't really know what was going on, I just new I felt bad and hated life and found any reason to justify my mood. What kind of post op diet does your doctor have you on? I was on liquids for a while, then soft and eventually solids. Remember, you just had major stomach surgery. Your insides are swollen, so the wrong food will really hurt. I'm sorry for what you are going through, and look forward to hearing about you post op diet. Wishing you well, Rachel

I completely agree with Rachel.  I was really depressed for the first month.  I had a blood clot develop after the first week and was bed ridden for about 4 weeks after that.  Then I developed a pretty bad case of anemia due to the blood thinner, the fact that my insides hadn't healed all the way and the doctor overshot my clotting time BIG TIME.  I thought that had made the worst mistake of my life.  But, after I could get up and walk again and then go back to work and then start going to the gym--well, I've already noticed a difference in the quality of my life.  I'm digging out clothes that I had bought and grew out of.  People are complimenting me on the fact I lost weight and that I look better.  At this point in the game, I wouldn't trade it.  I'm only 10 weeks out and I know things are going to be even better.  I truly hope you start feeling better and I bet your mood will turn around. :) Best of luck, David

I'm 6 weeks out and I have had the same feelings you are having. I'm at the point now where I can eat and I get stronger everyday but I am still unsure if I should have done this to myself. I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but I'm sure I will eventually.

I'm sorry your feeling so down. Although I had a different surgery than you, there are some common things, such as your hormones being completely out of whack for months after surgery. Also, it takes several months for the anesthesia to completely leave your system, and thats huge. The pain gets better by the day, and so does the eating, and the blue feelings. Make sure your doctor is on top of things and you have anti-nausea or antacid meds if you need them. Try to do something nice for yourself today, like get a pedicure or or massage, or maybe just visit a park if it's nice out. Give yourself some time, and I PROMISE you it gets better. Deanne

I am so sorry you are having a hard time. My Aunt had the same problem post op and they gave her a mild antidepressant. She is doing great now. It takes a while for us girls to re-regulate after such major body/mind shifts. There is no shame in a little pharmaceutical assistance.
