Freedom!-Moving on beyond the lapband
I'm just reading around for fun on some other boards, but was wondering if you found out any more about a revision? I'm just curious, because I thought I recognized you from the VSG board, and I know BC of MI is one of the best insurance companies for paying for the VSG. I was just wondering if they were covering your revision, or if you were just getting your band removed? I hope it comes out how you want it. I can't speak to a revision, but boy I love my VSG!!

Hi, I have BCBS of Michigan and I was able to get my band out and RNY covered 100%. I had a hiatal hernia and a slip that was "repaired" but the band still sat too high for my stomach to tolerate. I think my surgeon just documented all the problems I had (reflux and vomiting are NOT reasons to remove it), but I did have gastritis and esophagitis when I was scoped (even empty I would have problems with reflux and vomiting). I don't know the exact wording, but he basically pointed out all the problems and said that if I continue to work with my band, insurance will end up paying more for that than if I just got the revision to RNY. I was born fat, had a satiety problem since I was born, and I have tried everything to get the weight off. I need hunger help, portion help, and the result will be weight loss. That is why every diet failed me because I could only go so long with the severe hunger and tiny portions. I ate so many veggies, but I still had problems with hunger.
I wish you all the luck in the world! You should be able to find a way to get your band out with insurance. If you try to fill it and get reflux again... maybe have a scope done to check for erosion, inflammation (esophagitis or gastritis)?
Good luck!
