Has anyone had their surgery REVERSED ???????
Post Date: 1/29/08 8:03 pm
Hi, I am having to have my proceedure reversed. Should happen within the next 2 or 3 weeks. I can not gain any weight and contnue to lose. I pass out alot, have no energy look bad and feel bad all the time. I am eating everything as told and trying to eat more but my stomach is still only 8 oz's after almost 2 yr's. I am scared of dying and now I'm even more so with the risks of having this done. But, it is for my health to do it, just as it was to have it done the first time. If anyone has gone through this, PLEASE let me know. I can't even sit against anything without a pillow behind my back, there is no meat on my spine, my bone's are going, I am having to have a surgery on my knee. I can't even lay on my side's without a pillow between my knee's or the bone's hurt my legs and leave brusies. My hair used to be half way down my back and now it is barely to my shoulder's. Dr Huse is a great doctor, he said it is just the way my body is dealing with it.I hope all I have learnt will get me through this after wards.I would look and feel good at 220, I just want to feel better. For everyone having surgery, good luck and don't let my story discourage you, everyone is differant !

I have considered a reversal because my weight loss will not stop. My labs keep decreasing even though I am doubled up on my protein and vitamins. I dont think I am absorbing anything. I cant sleep, have shakes in my hands all the time, muscle weakness, cant keep muscle on, tingles in my legs at night, dizzyness, and now supposedly I have a leak in my pouch when I get full. Air goes into my chest and neck causing a horrible pain and shortness of breath because it limits the room my lungs can expand.
I am just curious,,is their only 1 major reason the surgery will be reversed?such as you all have stated here? loosing too much? On the main message board sez if you want to maintain your weight just add more carbs to your plan,,have you all been doing that to put some weight back on? or maintain? ..........I am not liking all my side effects from the wls,,is Rny the one that can be reversed?...........thanks Wendy

I'm not an autority, but have learned a bit about reversals. The band is supposed to be fully reversable, but there are some who have had band erosion and other issues that left them with permanant stomach damge that may argue that.
I believe the RNY is usually reversable, but the parts of the stomach that have been in disuse since the surgery such as the pyloric valve, sometimes do not work later, so the pouch may be permanent.
The DS's bypass is reversible, but the smaller stomach is permanent.
Someone with clearer or more scientific information will hopefully chime in, but I hope that helped.
