my mom mary wright died from complications due to a
My mom had the gastric bypass a few years ago and the surgery made her become Hypoglausemic which is low blood sugar, she would pass out 10-13 times a week with her being passed out for 30 mins to an hour each time. It would happen at any time of the day with anything she ate. Well in August 2006 she went in and had 80% of her pancreas removed, the doctors all agreed that this was a result of having the gastric bypass. Well having 80% of her pancreas removed did not help and she had to go in, in December of last year and have the rest of her pancreas removed half her stomach and some of her large intestines. We were told this surgery was equal to brain surgery. Well she got out and was not able to use the restroom for a month and it backed up into her liver and then stomach. They went to drain her liver b/c she was getting Jondis and she aspirated on all of the junk in her and came down with Phenomena. She was non responsive and on life support for about a month b/f she was able to come out of it and go to a long term facility. After she got out, she started having problems with her body absorbing nutrients, she couldn’t keep anything down. She became very skinny to the point where she basically starved herself to death. She went from 330 to 120 and would have weighed a lot less if she didn’t have skin. B/c her body wasn’t absorbing nutrients, she had a lack of B vitamin in her brain which produced a high level of ammonia. Once that was found out it was a matter of days b/f she first started having seizures then became brain dead. I know a couple other people going down the same path she did and it really breaks my heart to know someone can suffer this much over a period of 2-3 years. In the end my mom could not get up on her own for about 4 months. Her legs were so swollen. I am not trying to prevent anyone from having the surgery if they want/need it. I just want them to know that the suffering can get very long and gruesome. It’s horrible. Thanks for letting me tell you about what happened.
You replied to a post I made expressing my sympathy to a young girl whose mom had died after having WLS. I guess I'm confused as to why you thought I was being a "gastric bypass cheerleader". I was merely thanking her for sharing her story, so people who are considering surgery can make an informed decision.
I am sorry for all the complications you have experienced, as well. And I think you are right to be telling others of your experience. It's important for people to know all the possibilities of what could happen. I sincerely hope your doctors can find a solution to the problems you are experiencing.

Lisa, I am so sorry, that post was oviously not ment for you. I was so tierd last night and I must of clicked on your post instead of the person that I ment to get it. I usualy don't go off like that I have just had so much experience with telling my story and then someone will jump back real fast and let me know that it must be something I did wrong or that the benifits out way the risks. I went to a support group before I started developing problems and as soon as this lady started talking abut her problems the group was practicaly attacking her telling her how she is doing everything wrong and then after she left I had to listen to two lady's talk about what a lier she was and how all of her complications were in her head. Then last night when I got home I saw someone post something about "sorry for your loss but gastric bypass is the best," those were not her words but basically and I was so upset fom the news I was told from my doctor at Stanford that I am now up to sixteen injections a day and that I have to undergo a removal on my pancreas. So again I am so very sorry and yu must of thought I was a real nutt. Thanks for the words of encouragment. Happy Holidays, Kim
Yes, I know it is true that there are deaths associated with any surgery. Look around you though, thare are so many that are alive and so well after weight loss surgery. Almost a miracle. What did happen to your mom?
