Hi, there... If you find that after a couple of years (or even a year and a half) you are still not losing, or possibly gaining, you might want to look into a revision.  It's not for everyone, but there are a few folks in the DS Forum who've had revisions from RNY or Lap-Band to the DS and have continued to lose.  That said, I would try everything before considering a revision, since the last thing you probably want to do is go back into surgery.  But, if you need to ask questions about revisions, there are folks in the DS Forum who can help. Good luck!

tHANKS FOR THE INFO. i THINK IF BY jUNE i HAVEN'T LOST ANY MOT WEIGHT WHICH WILL BE MY 1 YR ANNIVERSARY, I WILL CONSIDER THE REVISION.  i TALKED TO MY SURGEON AND HE SAID THAT I SHOULD ONLY BE EATING TWO MEALS A DAY SO I WENT BACK TO TWO MEALS A DAY.  MY NUT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. AT FIRST SHE TOLD ME TO INCREASE MY PROTEIN, SO I DID THAT NOW SHE IS TELLING ME I AM PROBABLY GETTING TOO MANY CALORIES FROM THE PROTEIN SHAKES. IT IS JUS SO FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I AM TRYING SO HARD.  I DID HAVE MY THYROID CHECKED AND NOTHING IS WRONG THERE.  PEOPLE KEEP TELLING ME THAT BECAUSE I AM WORKING OUT 6 DAYS A WEEK THAT I AM GAINING MUSCLE. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT EITHER.  ANY WAY I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED.  THANKS FOR THE CONCERN.

You got the same kind of run around that I got.  Either I was eating too much or not eating enough or eating too much protein or not enough protein.  What I found out on my own is that my body chemistry works exactly the same as it did before the WLS.  What I mean by that is that the diets that didn't work for me before, still don't work for me and the ones that did work for me before, work even better after WLS.  The only diet that I was able to lose weight on before WLS was a low glycemic, low fat, low sodium diet which was doctor supervised.  It also required eating about 5-6 times per day but very small meals and snacks.  Well I am now doing Nutrisystem because it works on the same theory and I am losing weight each day now when I was at a complete standstill.  I also supplement with 2 very low carb protein shakes for an additional 60 grams of protein.  I substitute this in for my dairy and fruit requirement on NS.  I use unsweetened Soy milk in my shakes because I try to avoid dairy whenever possible.  Don't get discouraged.  You probably just don't fit the norm like I didn't and the doctors just don't know what to say.  I have my thyroid and everything else checked and they just could not figure out why my weight loss is way below the norm.  I have been accused of not eating they way the doctor instructed which was not the case.  Find out what works for you and go for it.  Just remember to make sure you get all of the required nutrients in for whatever you do.  Some people say do no carbs which absolutely did nothing for me except leave me feeling weak, tired and hungry.  I believe in a limited amount of good carbs (thus low glycemic vs. low carb).  My energy level is out of this world now and I am losing.

Hey, I am just about 5 weeks out and was told that I would always eat 6 small meals a day.  2 ozs of protein and 2 ozs of veg., fruit or starch and fat.  I have lost 27 lbs so far and I think I would be mad if I had only lost 50 lbs also.  A friend of mine was not losing weight either (she had surgery same day as I did) and she was retaining fluids.  The Dr put her on dietetics and she lost 12 lbs in 4 days.  I hope everything goes well at your 1 year check-up.  God Bless.

I'm not a medical professional but I'm going to say it anyway: Your surgeon's advice about two meals a day is horse hockey. There's no way your body is going to cooperate with a minimum-calorie diet divided into just two meals a day.  Yes, you might be relying too hard on protein shakes and you might need more "real food" and a more varied diet. Generally speaking, your diet should be low in fat, relatively low in carbohydrates, very low in processed and high glycemic index carbs (don't eat parsnips, they're absorbed almost as fast as straight glucose! Really! *g*), generous in protein and fresh veggies, and you should be drinking a ton of water a day and taking your supplements.

Thank you very much for your input.  You know the problem I am having now is it's like my surgeon's office don't want to have any thing to do with me now that the surgery is over.  My nut won't even return my e-mails.  I will try to figure this out on my own.  The good thing is that I have not started gaining weight, I just can't find a solution for loosing.  I will take your advice and see what happens.  What do I have to loose? (smile) Thank you

Oh man, that blows :-(. My surgeon is AMAZING in his dedication to his patients; I call or email him or his wife (who is an RN and manages the practice) a couple times a month easy, sometimes even more often. I can't imagine not having that accessibility, it would drive me nuts. (Guess I'm spoiled huh? LOL) Can you tell me a little more about what/how you're eating? I might be able to give you some input based on my many years of attempting to manage my diabetes. I'm no nutritionist, but I've sure had lots of classes and courses in DIET DIET DIET :-).  Y'know, it might also be possible that your body is mega efficient at clinging to every calorie, so that the RNY does not give you sufficient malabsorption to fight that effect. If you exhaust all the correct diet and exercise options, that would be my next thought. In that case, you might want to consider a revision to DS. Come pay us a visit on the DS board and ask about revisions from RNY. There are a number of folks there who can share their experiences. Also, on the site www.duodenalswitch.com there are a good number of folks who've had revisions and one lady in particular who is an absolute genius at helping people wade through all the complicated stuff that surrounds the whole preparation process, whether for a revision or a "virgin" procedure. Some people post on both sites so there's some overlap, but there are others that just stick to one site or the other.  Hang in there and don't give up hope!! It sounds like you don't have a heck of a lot of support in person, and that makes it tough. But that's where the Internet  can be a godsend and a lifesaver :-).
