GASTRIC BYPASS GONE WRONG

I had Gastric Bypass in 2003 and lost a little over 100lbs. than it stopped and I ganed it all back...I was 424 when I had surgery now over 3 years later I am almost 400lbs again..I got checked out last year to see if it stretched but they say it didnt....I went through a lot when I had surgery..I almost died I was in hospital for 1 1/2 months 3 weeks of that I was in a CCU and the other time they put me in a normal room....I also got a nice hernia out of the deal which makes me look a lot pregnant which I am not....I watch what I eat I dont eat much but yet I have a weight problem still....I dont know what to do...So in a way I regret having this surgery since I have gained almost all the weight back that I lost....I have tried to talk to people about this but no one seems to want to help me...There is a lady that lives in the same small town as me I emailed her she emailed back 2 times and now I have not heard from her anymore... :help:

Nadeen, you already have an angel and you didn't even know it. someone contacted me and told me of your plight. Please don't give up hope. I, too, have had a RNY which failed after 2 years. You can read my profile to see why I choose a revision to a DS from RNY, even though I had to travel to SF for it and had a couple of well known wl surgeons much, much closer to me try to convince me to fix what I already had, I DID not want another surgery that could fail mechanically. I was 259 when I went in for my revision and in 3 months I have lost 56 lbs. I'm sorry you haven't been getting the social or medical support you desperately need. I hope those days are going to be over for you, because there are very good revision surgeons that can and will help you. My first suggestion would be to research which surgery you think you want to be revised to. Don't think that you have to stay a RNY'r, since they're notorious for failing after a few years. After that, then find a great surgeon (not just a good one, because revision surgery is much more complex and more issues for complications) than any other surgery. Which is why I choose Dr. Husted. He is extremely experieneced with revision surgery and is the best of the best. He's with Dr. Rabkins now at www.paclap.com. The Rabkin brothers are two more of the top guns in the WLS world. Dr. J. Rabkins does liver transplants as well as wls. Anyhow, now you know you're not alone in this journey and PM me anytime or send me an email. Nadeen, also consider Dr. Gary Anthone who is another DS-genius and much more convenient, now that he has moved to NE. Sue

MS C, Dr. Anthone doesn't do revisions from RNY to DS anymore. It's a shame, because he is truly a gifted surgeon but he's just not doing them.

I am having the DS with Dr. Lane in Bowling Green, Ohio - I'm not sure if he does revisions, but he does specialize in high-risk patients. You might want to check him out.

am so sorry to hear your story. I have not had my surgery yet but i know how devasted i would be if i went thru with the surgery and lost just to gain it all back.

I just had a revision.  My first surgery was in June of 05 within a few weeks I knew it wasnt working, by the sixth mnth I met with another surgeon for a revision.  I was unwilling to go to DS, which I would have prefered, but he did revise the RNY.   Since Feb,  I have lost a little more than 40lbs.  Not alot considering I was 423 at the first surgery & 340 for the second.  I am losing weight VERY slowly, although now I cant eat alot & eat healthy, the doc says that my metabolism is SLOW.  clinicly it is!  So I have to excersize (which I hate!) But I havnt given up yet.  Please dont give up either. 

hi, I feel your pain,,,, I had it done and it almost killed me, I better finally after 6 weeks ! lost 130 lbs.. Four years later I have gained it back! It is so discouraging.. Any tips you may have for me would be great!
