SURGERY HORROR STORIES...
I am looking at E channel...plastic surgery horror stories...and they mentioned to WATCH OUT for a surgeon who NEVER performs surgery in a hospital...those who uses surgery centers or perform surgeries in their office may or many not be REALLY a surgeon..., I did not know that....they mention that sometimes a doctor can actually start practicing performing surgery without ANY surgery training period... I thought only a trained surgeon could perform surgery....
They also mention Hospitals will NOT allow privileges to a doctor to perform ANY procedures in a hospital without appropriate credentials and they MUST be board certified. Gee...there is NO way I would have surgery outside of hospital anyway....especially in a doctor's office...good grief...
So they mention be wary of doctors that NEVER perform surgery in a reputable hospital no matter how small the procedure...
Boy there were infection and plastic surgery nightmares....any way I just thought I would share...it is gone off now, but I am sure they will re air this soon...
Before you have surgery, you should check the web and make sure your surgeon is board certified to do the surgery you select. You can also check with the state medical association to see if any suits have been filed against him/her.
I have had 15 major surgeries, the last being laproscopic RNY dec 9. I selected my surgeon because of his training, yearly updated bariatric training, and certifications. I drove 1 1/2 hours to get to him, and was happy with my results. I am down 108 lbs in 7 1/2 mo, and he was able to do it laproscopically, which was a challenge with a bmi of almost 56!! He is board certified in bariatric and laproscopic surgery, and belongs to ama, and sages( for gi laproscopic surgeries) many surgeons I checked out were not board certified in bariatric surgery, but were just surgeons. I only wanted someone with great credentials!
