My Nightmare has came true:-(

I went to my long awaited Appointment to the Surgeon on 12-11-03 and he will not do my surgery CRASH! went my hopes, one reason was my BMI was to high. Does anyone know of a Surgeon in NC that will handle High BMI and takes Medicaid? Help and prayers are very much needed Pat C

Try Dr. Michael Malik, in Cary, at Triangle Surgical Associates. Talk to his PA, Lisa Long, before you make an appointment and tell her your BMI and she can let you know before you make the appointment if he will take you. I know they take Medicaid.

ok im gonna try this one more time lol. hey pam sweety. i know wat u are going thru, i been there been told they wont do my surgery and each used a different excuse. im 51 377# bmi of 77.7 and im 4ft 10. Im a midget . jeeze id be normal if i was maybe 8 feet tall. i need to grow. anyway hun like u i was depressed and i cried all the time. i wanted this surgery, i needed this to live. but noone wanted to help me.....until i met Dr.Carter in Fayetteville. What a sweet man and hes so dedicated to his patients. I knew when i met him he was the one for me. Hes dont many large patients up to i think 600 # and i have hernia and 4 other surgeries. I talked to Kami last night and she mentioned a Dr. Narzzi in Greenville also and said he did not have a long list. You would have to pay $500 for something.....not sure if it is nutritionist or the psych or what. We gonna get this done......it is just going to take a little longer. Love you, Pat. Pat

I had a hiatal hernia and later found out that I had a diverticula (I guess that would be what you called "ulcer"). I don't want to scare you, but it was a very dangerous situation for me. I was in the hospital for four months immediately following surgery. I had last rites given twice. I wouldn't recommend this surgery. You are welcome to write me for more info., but it sounds like you had similar preexisting conditions that for me were nearly fatal. [email protected]

How high is your BMI? I have a BMI of over 61 and I also have medicaid and Dr. Enoch in Lousiburg,NC near Raleigh will be doing my surgery. I have been wanting and waiting for this opportunity for over 3 years now and this doctor is giving me the chance at a healthier and happier life. Oh Pat, I am so sorry. I feel just terrible, but from the post that I have just read and seems there is still hope for you. Please don't give up and get on the horn to these other doctors. Someone out there will help you, and we are here as your online family to help you through the ups and downs of this long ride. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Pat, I am so very sorry. I'm not a big fan of Dr. Gonzales in W-S, but I know he handles larger BMI's. He only does open RNY though. You may want to call his office. One of my very good friends went to him and has had great results and was very happy. I saw him about 2 yrs ago, and I just didn't feel right about going ahead with the surgery at that time, I'm not saying anything bad about him, I just didn't think he was right for me, and I only wanted lap. rny, not opened. I wish you luck and will keep you in my prayers. I just got declined by my insurance co. yesturday, and I will not give up, so don't you give up either!
