Topic: RE: Any horse people?
Hello,

I too love horses. Since having WLS I am more confident when I ride I no longer feel like a sack of potatoes bouncing around, yea!  I have 4 horses, 1 that is 33 and is still doing fine, although I don't ride him any more because I can feel his creeky bones rubbing against each other on his back when I ride him bare back......  it still makes me feel like I might be hurting him.  I have a gelding that is about 10, he has such an attitude that I will probably sell him because I just don't have the time to fight with him everytime I get on him.  My daughter's barrel horse is with us still and he is about 9 yrs old (he was mine but too much power and speed for me and my 54 year old body), then I have a 4 year old and he too is registered and was off the track.  I call him spit because I don't like his registered name and he just loves me.  I would like to get back to doing barrels but I feel like I'm too old and don't have enough confidence in myself..   Yea, I love horses and horse people.

You to get the mats taken care of, they can be very painful if not dealt with. I work at an animal hospital and we had a cat come in due to constipation, but  she was constipated due to the 2lb mat on her back, tail, and backside area. She actually had to be sedated because it was such a difficult mat, she got very stressed by the shaving.

I would say try a groomer first, be sure to let them know if you think he might be difficult. Groomers are usualy very good with cats as well as dogs, I'm sure they given lots of persian cats lion cuts.
If they are unable to help him I would suggest taking him to the vet for sedation, this is the extreme method so hopefully the groomer does well.

It really shouldn't be how he looks anyway, but if he's comfotable after.

Good luck with him!

I want to get back into riding as soon as I lose some lbs. I have two horses that need to be ridden but they are just living a life of leisure for now. I'm not sure they'll be as happy as I will once the riding begins again.

I have a half schnauzer, half yorkie, She is my baby , and she knows it.  I have her spoiled rotten. She loves to wear her little dresses. She is a greyish color, her name is peepers. I got her from a friend, after she had bitten a neighbor child who was abusing her, I would have bitten him too. Any way now she has no worries.  In the past I had a male minature pincher, his name was scooter, and he thought he was a big dog, not afraid of anything. I have also had cat's long and short haired.

Topic: RE: cat people - russian blue vs english blue
Twice now, in 1975 and again in 1997, we have rescued 'blue' cats.   Our original (Cat) from 1975 was a female with green eyes; she died of cancer in 1989.  The brother/sister duo were two years old in 1997 (Pink and Blue, respectively - yes, I know, a bit of a gender mess!) when we adopted them.  They also have the green eyes.  All three had/have the two-level grey fur.   All three had/have pink pads.

Cat was about 2 when she adopted us.  I suspected, from the energy that all three had/have their whole life, that this breed/non-breed is a terror as a kitten/teen-ager, which is why they may be adoptable at age 2 so readily!!

We could never decide if they were British or Russian, if indeed they were any breed.

I then heard of a 3rd blue breed called a French Chartreux.  Described as "comically rotund" in one cat book, we decided that all three of our cats were Chartreuse!!  I don't really care!  They are wonderful cats.

I grew up with Black Labs, and my husband grew up with alley cats.  This blue cat, whatever it is, is a wonderful compromise for the cat vs dog problem.  No voice, a wonderfully thick coat, loves to be petted, loves to play, even might come when called.  Two of our three cats would play fetch with anything from beer caps, milk jug caps, feathers, etc.

I also notice that these blues show up in an out-of-proportionately number of cat commercials or cat photographs.  Perhaps it is because they are so pretty or so 'trainable'...at least for a cat.

Take care.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life....

I  have two mini schnauzers and a domestic short hair/unknown breed kitty at home. The doggies are Greta Grace (light salt & pepper) and Roudy (dark salt & pepper). GG is almost 3 and Roudy is almost 2. They are my sweet babies! I started with schnauzers after my aunt gave me one of her "oops" puppies - a mini schnauzer/mini dachsund (sp?) mix; I named her Weazy for wiener dog-schnauzer mix.  Yes, I have issues! But that little dog was the very best. She and I did everything together. But I let my guard down and she wa**** by a car and killed.  I was so upset with myself, but she taught me alot in her short lifetime. And I knew I had to spread the love to other animals, and along came Greta Grace and later Roudy.

My kitty is name Kitta. I know...very original. I couldn't think of a name for her when she came to us over 10 years ago. She'll be 11 this year. Also, she has spine damage from her first home (abusive kid) and has limited use of her back legs and tail. She can get any place she really wants to be, she just can't jump like other kitties. She's a wonderful mouser, too. She can be sweet, but she definitely has attitude!

My sister and her family have two black pugs and she recently rescued a basset hound who is 7. This is a woman who also has her husband's 16-year-old niece living with them, along with her own two children, ages 3 and 1.

My mom has 4 kitties, one of which used to live in my yard as a feral. He is completely domesticated now! He's white with cream-colored spots. Two of the others are black and the fourth is white with patches of gray/black tabby stripes. What a pack!

I grew up with pekingese dogs. My mom absolutely adored them. And my dad always had a lab.

I really wish I could run a rescue farm for all abandoned and/or unwanted animals could live.

Failure is not an option!
