You might try a pony halter as a harness. My husband had a large dog in college and he used the pony halter instead of a do harness and it worked out just fine.

I have a Sharpey/Retrierver mix, 5 1/2 mos. old and 45+lbs. The way that I house broke her is that I would bring her out alot, and I do mean alot, and when she peed/pooped, I would say "hurry up" and then give her a liver treat when she did. She still has an occasional accident when I'm not home because the kids don't take her out often enough.
She is crated at night and when we are all gone from the house. If we leave her in the yard, she digs trying to get to China. Feel better when you think about the size of Marley's puddles vs. a daschund! Good luck to you. There is an EXCELLENT show on National Geographic call the Dog Whisperer and he really helps you learn how to correct dog behavior. Try to watch it if you have cable or satellite.

Our 13-14 year old best friend, Jake, died in January of '05. We had him cremated and took his ashes with us on Spring break. We always go back to the same place and Jake loved it. We spread some of his ashes there and the rest are sitting on a shelf. Our vet took a paw print and made it into a ceramic wall hanging so we also have that.
Four months later, Marley came to us. She is a Sharpey mix, 5 1/2 months old, 45+ lb. puppy that has healed our family. We have always been blessed with animals that find us versus us finding them or buying them.
My condolences to your sister.

ME ME ME!!!! (raising hand and jumping up and down) LOL!! I love all animals, but I am partial to cats. We have 12 rescued cats, all indoors and all spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. They live a good life here and we love them dearly!! Email me anytime at [email protected] and I will show you all my pictures of my little loves. I would love to see pictures of yours also!!

I LOVE cats also and my boyfriend and I are owned by 12 here. They are all spayed/neutered and all shots. They are strickly indoors (we live in a wooded area with lots of foxes and coyotes) and I am a clean freak about the boxes and making sure all is clean! I want people to enjoy my cats when they visit, not smell them! LOL! All my cats are rescues that I saved at one time or another. I work at a local shelter and love what I do. I wouldnt have it any other way and thank God everyday for the honor he has given me to be a voice for the voiceless!

Your right Tara, this is a wonderful tool to find and save a life. I am the adoption/volunteer coordinator for a local shelter here in RI and I am the sole person who is in charge of the site on Petfinder.com. I have had MANY successful adoptions and so many wonderful animals who wouldnt have been given the second chance they so deserve and long for if it not for this site!!

I HAVE TILL SATURDAY TO REGISTER FOR SCHOOL AT WCCCD AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH THE VET TECH CLASSES ARE.
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS GOING TO SCHOOL OR HAVE ALREADY GONE TO SCHOOL FOR THIS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAD TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THE CLASSES AND HOW MUCH IT WAS.
Topic: Any proffessional gromers on board?
Just wondering if there are any other groomers out there! I would love to know any one in the biz that had surgery and what affects it may have had on their business good or bad. I love my work and my furry clients and I will be hard pressed to leave them for even a short amount of time. but I am sure after significant weight loss I will be even better. I get a really energy low in the middle of the day and crave suger. I hope this will pass.

Theresa I'm sorry for your lost.
My dog would have been over twenty years old this year. Can dogs live that long?
I miss her everyday, she was my baby. I would like to have another pet but where I live they don't allow pets. I wish you the best and just know that your dog is in a better place.
