Topic: RE: Lost our beloved Golden
Leslie-
I am so sorry to hear of your loss-just found this messageboard and felt the need to reply. I am a veterinarian and from your description you saved your beloved Holly from a painful end to her life. Truly I believe that euthanasia is a gift that we give our pets- they don't have to have a long, drawn out period of suffering- a painless, dignified way out of this life is a blessing to them when there is truly no hope.Having said that, I have been where you are now, losing a dear companion, and even when you know you did the right thing it is still so hard.
May God bless you and your family and I hope that your daughter recovers soon.
Sincerely,
Phyllis
Topic: RE: Lost our beloved Golden
Hello,
I am very sad. I had to euthanize my 13 1/2 yr old silky terrier-Kami.
I feel as though my life will never be happy again. I had to make this decision yesterday (2/9/2006). I have felt sick and heartbroken. Will I ever stop crying ? I am trying to remember all the happy memories but each time I do I start crying harder. Please remember me. Thank You.

Topic: Lost our beloved Golden
I had a really difficult day this week. We had to put down our beloved Golden Retriever, Holly. Holly was almost 14 years old and had been the constant companion to my three kids when they were young. In her older years she had been my constant companion in my office. I bred Goldens for 10 years and this was our last dog.
We had been treating Holly for severe arthritis the last 5 months and on Monday we took her to the vet because of massive swelling in her leg, paw and elbow. The vet took a few x-rays that indicated cancerous bone involvement all over her leg. In the last few weeks she had really gone down hill, slept all day, and had a lot of difficulty getting up and going out.
The only treatment would have been amputation and my husband and I couldn't do this to our beloved girl. Her quality of life had so decreased and the only choice we had was to put her to sleep.
What makes this even worse is that my daughter is currently hospitalized for depression and doesn't know what we had to make this difficult decision.
Please keep our family in your prayers.

Topic: Rescue in need of help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, my name is Pamela Brownfield. I work with Terry Wolf at Southern Comfort Animal Rescue Services. We are still in the beginning stages of getting where we want to be. The reason I am writing you would because we are in need of help. Although we are looking at property here, it is still a long way off. We, in the short year we have been rescuing, have come to a stand still. We are not taking in any more. In fact we are in a court battle with locals over the numbers we have. I need to move out some right away but do not want to send these babies to the high kill shelters here. If you could take in a few or know of anyone who can could you please contact us at 912-767-7333 or 912-369-3418. I have included a few Photos and Bio's of just a handful of to ones in need of moving right away.
First is Katie. She is a Fox Hound. She is about 3-4 Years old and heart worm Pos but as health as a house says the doctor. She has been on treatment for about 6 months now. She is already spayed. She is house trained and does not bark. She has never barked here. She does have a problem with escaping but always comes when called.
Second is Mike. She is a yellow lab mix. She is about 3-4 years old. She is house trained and spayed. She is also Heart worm Pos, but as with Katie health as a horse. In fact she has gained about fifty pounds since coming to us. She was abounded for weeks with no food or water in someone's back yard. She is afraid of most Men. She is very sweet and loving.
Third are Gypsy and her two babies who were only a day old when I saved them from the gas chamber here. She is a Doberman Rott mix. Gypsy is a sad story. She is afraid of everyone. She will let me play with the babies but I can't touch her. She does not show any signs of aggression but is really afraid. I have had her for about six weeks now. The pups are a girl and a boy. Yogi (boy) and Booboo (girl).
I would be willing to have these three fixed at my expense when they are able. Please any help is better then no help.
Thank you for reading this and again my number is 912-369-3418 or 912-767-7333. Day or Night it is never too late.

Topic: RE: Diabetic Dog
I had a diabetic husky a few years back. Once the right dose of insulin is found, the extra water drinking with stop, hence less pee. Do you have regular glucos curves done at the vets?
Also, if you love your dog and he is part of the family you deal with whatever happens, even if that mean cleaning up puppy pads.
Topic: RE: Any Corgis?
I got my Pembroke from a breeder in Westwego,LA. (a small town across the Mississippi Rivert from New Orleans. She was supposed to go to a family member of the breeder who didn't want her tail cut. That person decided they didn't want her-lucky me. she's beautiful and her tail is long and bushy like a fox. She is an alpha-most female corgis are. My Cardigan I found through the AKC website. The breeder was in Pineville,LA (near Alexandria). He is the only one in LA. who breeds Cardigan puppies to sell. And he only breeds them every 2 years. He only had 3 puppies in this litter that lived and he kept one. I was on a waiting list and 3 others before me backed out, that's how I got him.
I've also wanted corgis for a long time, but they are hard to find. If you don't mind getting an older dog, they have rescued corgis available sometimes. Try the corgi websites. Good luck.

Wow, I'd love a Cardigan and I've never seen a Pembroke with a tail! Our Pembroke is seven years old. We've only had him a year and he's just finished his heartworm treatment. We were told he had been on Heartgard but he was positive when we took him to the vet. He's an excellent dog, very well trained.
I love all dogs but I've always wanted a corgi and he won't be my last. I'm looking for a Cardigan but I don't know how he'd react, guess it would have to be a female so he can stay the alpha! Did you get your corgis from a LA breeder?
Always great talking to a fellow dog lover!
Topic: Diabetic Dog
Does anyone have a diabetic dog? My American Eskimo was diagnosed shortly after Thanksgiving. We are having a difficult time getting his insulin regulated. For the last 2 weeks, he has not been able to hold his pee and this is becoming very frustrating for me because I"m not always home when he needs to go out. I live on a second floor so I can't just let him out - also I rent. He has learned to use "puppy pads", but I'm not willing to deal with these for the rest of our lives. Any thoughts?

Topic: RE: Saint Bernard Puppy....
We adopted our Saint from a rescue. He was about 9 years old and thank goodness had already gone thru all the terrible puppy stages. He is the best dog I have ever had. He weight 180lbs and is the most gentle animal ever. Now I also adopted a husky mix at about 5 months. He chewed everything and giving him toys didnt stop him from chewing the furniture too. We kennel trained him and so far, he is now 1 1/2 years old, no problems.
I would have to say I would never get a puppy again.
