Topic: RE: Want to ride again....
I'm less than a mile from where the Armuchee Saddle Club use to be. Because of lack of support it went bust. Bust everyone usually goes to Berry Saddle Club anyway. It is behind Berry College and has a good amount of members. Shows every 4th Saturday in the month which generates a good amount of participation. But you also have alot of the same folks too. Cartersville has a good saddle club & support also.
We went for our first appt with the nutritionist. She has us on a diet for 4 weeks along with excercise then come back. If we pass this portion, then we get to go to the psy dr and labs. Fun fun. I weighed in at 233 so hopefully I can get some of this off.
Thanks for the response.
BTW, how long did it take for you to actually heal from the surgery? I'd be afraid that after all I'd gone thru, I'd fall or get thrown from a horse and undo something.

Topic: RE: Want to ride again....
Hi Jan,
I waited until march to ride because I had a goal in my head that I wouldn't get on my horse until I was atleast 200lbs because I didn't want to hurt him. I had surgery on 11/09/05. I know where Armuchee is I used to show at the floyd county saddle club and at the armuchee saddle club and also my sisters live in shannon which isn't far from you. Good luck with your journey and keep in touch!

I'm just beginning the journey toward WLS. I'm in the waiting stage and hope to have the bypass within the next couple months. Tomorrow is my first appt with the Nut. Since I don't have to wait for insurance, then just getting the "pre stuff" out of the way is what will be timely. I currently have 6 horses. Im overweight too which makes it hard. I have a 4 step mounting block just to get up there. How long did you wait until you rode again after surgery?
Thanks
Jan Morris
BTW, I'm in GA also. Armuchee which is by Rome, NW section of Georgia

I'm in the waiting stage for gastric bypass surgery. I'm wondering, how long did you wait until you rode after surgery? I have 6 horses and want to ride this show season if possible.
Thanks,
Jan Morris
Topic: RE: Elderly dog wont sleep!
Hi.. Know this is old but just found these boards.
I also adopted an old rescue dog. He drips/pees round the clock due to not being neutered young (prostate problems). Luckily with a male we just keep a belly band on him with a pad so we don't have to crate him and he sleeps almost all night now on his big padded bed. (It seems to comfort his old bones)
Anyway, he had a bad habit of barking to come in from the yard (regardless of what time it was). My boyfriend squirted him with water and said "No". That only took 2 times and he stopped.
If you are crating her at night I'd put a water bottle or heavy metal bowl in the crate with her. Usually they won't go where they're sleeping. Some newspaper and towels in the crate will give extra security if she does.
Good luck and bless you for taking her in. We're such a disposal society and these little seniors deserve better... hugs.. Pat

Sarah, please go to the handicapped program and volunteer. They will understand you are shy at the beginning. The Creator of All Life will give you the strength to take the first step, and all the other steps will be made easier after that.
Please contact me when you visit Suisun City... I will be delighted to give you a lesson if you wish, including trail obstacles etc.
Most warmly,
Kari Ann Owen

Hi Kari that is great. You wouldn't happen to work at Wild Horse Ranch would you? When I would visit my brother who lives in Suisun City I would always go up to Wild Horse Ranch and rent a horse and go for a ride. I live in GA now and have a Tennessee Walking Horse gelding that I trail ride. For years I have been interested in volounteering for a riding for the handicapped program - there is one less than 15 miles from where I live, but every time I have almost got up the nerve to go I back out. I am shy and nervous that I will not know how to deal with special needs people.

Topic: difference between akc and aca
What is the difference between the American Kennel Club and the American Canine Association? I just got a shih tzu. Her papers are with the American Canine Association.
I love her just the same. She is 6 m old, black and white. Her name is Princess.
She is a wonderful lap dog. Princess is a great companion for me.
