Hi is nice to feel exited but keep in mind having the surgery is a total challenge you need to understand first what to do after that because you will struggle with not knowing what to eat and what to don't to be successful
I am telling you because I had done the sleeve gastrectomy and it was a nice of cake 7 little insicions and very easy recovery be able to walk right away and get my regular like in place but eating and drinking was and is a big challenge
Let me explain you a bit about it I can't eat almost anything during the day foursome reason I grow up but I am not feeling with sick the food just comes back to my through as I can take my intake of protein during the night is strange but I am drink with no problem during the night also I can eat meat a very small amount eating pouring and Jello and eggs is not possible I have to trow up after 5 min after I eat them also what they are talking to zip During the day some people can't do that like me so I wait for late at night to drink my protein
Also I found a keto ice cream with very dark chocolate no sugar all 1 carbs when I feel like having something sweet I eat 1/2 of that good enough I recommend you to buy geriatric fission shakes meal replacement pretty good stuff easy to drink may like it they taste sweet but they don't have sugar and carbs you can loose weight pretty easy
I was219 pounds before starting the weight lose programme so when they did the surgery I was 196 pounds know after1 month 1/2 I am 175.6 pounds believe me is not easy but I possible keep in mind don't try to cheed you can put in jeopardy your life this is not easy but is not impossible you can do it keep in mind you need to get better try to do some walking and stationary biking it will help to burn the calories you try to eat during the day if you able to eat mean time stay positive life is precious you can do it go for it and be safe

I know it's an old thread but the words of all people here helped me to make this decision too. Thank you all guys!
Thank you so much! I did not know that getting iron infusions was typical for lap banders. I'm glad I came back to this site. You have been so helpful because now I need to reevaluate if I want to do the RNY. I definitely want to lose more than 20 lbs. You are so right that we have learned how to eat around the smaller stomach. My problem is not eating my calories but drinking them! Sugary drinks (i.e. starbucks and dunkin donuts) and sweet tea are my downfall. If I stopped drinking that everyday I'd probably lose 50 lbs! I have a meeting with my doctor on June 1 so I am excited to see what exactly my options are.
Most of us with weight loss surgery end up with iron infusions. RNY is sometimes used in severe cases of GERD for people who do not have weight to lose. I am glad you now know not to go from band to VSG. Revision typically does not result in a lot of weight loss. Twenty pounds is considered about average. You might lose more with RNY since it also adds malabsorption to restriction.
Weight loss is accomplished by eating less calories than you burn. The problem with revisions is that we have learned how to gain weight even with a smaller stomach. So in addition to revision surgery, your ultimate weight loss will depend on changing your eating habits.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Thank you so much for telling me that because reflux is one of the main issues I am having and it is really bad. I will need to look into the bypass then because I had not seen anything saying that. I am also severely anemic because my body does not absorb iron from my stomach so I have to get iron infusions every 4-6 months. I have sleep issues because I am terrified to sleep because of the reflux. I fear that I will choke to death in my sleep. I'm just ready to get rid of the band. I have not talked to a surgeon yet. I was really just looking into my options first. I plan to speak to a surgeon very soon.
Welcome back. So I am a band to bypass revision. In all honesty I would not get the sleeve after having the band. My surgeon even said because I had reflux so bad from the band that getting the sleeve would end up making it worse.
The sleeve is similar to the band with being a restrictive only surgery. What kind of issues are you having with the band and have you talked to a surgeon about getting a revision?
So I frequented this forum a lot back around 2007-2008 when I got my Lap Band. Now, I'm back because I am considering getting a revision from lap band to a gastric sleeve. I have basically gained most of the 100 lbs back that I lost. I would really just like to take it out and get a gastric sleeve. I'm tired of dealing with all of the issues I am having with the band. Has anyone had their band removed and revised to a sleeve? What has your experience been? How much weight have you lost since you revised to a sleeve? Are you having any issues? thanks so much to anyone *****sponds.

It's interesting... I've always been a real gourmet cook ( one that actually grows their own fresh herbs and vegetables and even fruits )
But since I had my RNY ten years ago I've become much pickier .
I tried buying a few lean cuisine frozen dinners a few days ago and literally almost barfed trying to eat them. I ended up throwing it all out .
i DO think that half the process of success post WLS is being able to cook great tasting lowfat meals at home and not being dependent on processed foods or restaurants.
I watch the Dr Now 600 lb show all the time and one of the things I really notice is that the patients really can't cook at all .
They don't need just a nutritionist to tell them what they shouldn't eat but also a chef in training an intern maybe ... who could show how to cook twenty amazingly good tasting lowfat low carb and healthy recipes and where you get them from on the internet and what staples you should have to pump up the taste .
I'm on day 7 from surgery. I'm feeling great and excited about the future. Wondering about OA....are there others that go to OA and find it helpful? I've tried it a few times and just didn't find it helpful. Maybe I need to have a better attitude toward it or be more open.
If you go to OA, can you offer me some zoom meetings to attend?
Thank you,
Erin
