Topic: RE: Need help. Have Lapband, considering sleeve or DS

I updated my journey on my other post...but I will add it here too. I had the Lapband removed in March 2022. It went well and there was no damage from it being there so long. I guess because it was unfilled for many years. I am scheduled for DS surgery this September. It will be a real DS with two connections, but I will be getting a common channel of 200cm. I am confident after all of my research I've done on on various sites, Facebook groups, YouTube, andDr discussions, that a modified DS is the right thing for my situation.

In the early DS days cc were 50cm and since then the normal DS have trended longer because of issues, with traditional DS now being 100-150cm. I am not concerned about weight regain...I'd like to lose 80 lbs..... its lifestyle issues, and how will my body may react to possible illness as I get elderly.

I've lost weight with restriction alone in the past, but did regain because of issues with the band, so the longer cc makes sense for me....I think its enough to keep it off, but it may not for other people... starting bmi 37.

All I can say is do your research, talk with your doctor, and be willing to listen to other peoples stories, good and bad, and make the best choice for yourself. I'm grateful for all of the responses and opinions that everyone has left.

Topic: Post Op Questions

Hi everyone! Had my SADI/loop switch operation completed yesterday. It was performed laparoscopically. I have five incisions. Of the lower four, they all have slightly puffed out centers. Has anyone else had this?

I also had a sneezing fit today and felt some kind of shift in the highest incision. They've also all started bruising today, though it's not extensive. Wondering if that's part of the transition to activities outside of hall walking and getting home. I feel a little warm but think I know why.

The nurse checked everything last night and said they looked good. But they have evolved a bit. Any feedback welcome! Cheers.

Topic: RE: Support

Hi Robin. Since the pandemic, you can attend virtual support groups. My surgeon retired so I searched bariatric centers in my state and found most of them are hosting their support groups via ZOOM and other methods. And usually, you don't have to be a patient to attend. I have even attended groups in other states!

I am not sure what advise to give you, but I do share the same issue almost identically. I am 17 years out and my lowest weight was 123. At my last physical last week I am up to 170.3 ??. I think for me, my eating is definitely tied to emotions and also energy levels.

i did so well in the beginning... I exercised every day and then we moved and it's been a down hill from there. It's hard to break old habits and start new ones. I have started exercising and I am really going to try to me more mindful of my eating.

please know you're not alone - I wish I could offer some advise!

Topic: Hey, cool! 12 years out today!

Almost forgot it's my 12 year RNY anniversary today! I'm happy to report I've been at goal weight since a year and a half post surgery. I'm in excellent health unlike before surgery. Anyway, I am beyond grateful for my surgery- 130lb loss- and am very pleased I've been able to do the work to maintain my weight loss. Way cool!

I don't know much about the DS but can you go back to the basics of your program? Or meet with someone from your medical practice to get a refresher on what you could be doing differently? Good luck!!
