Batwingman, the conference is still scheduled and we will be making some announcements soon. We have been in contact with the hotel on a day-to-day basis and since Texas has just opened up, we are ensuring we know all their limitations as well as requirements for Covid safety for our attendees. We will make the announcements on our site as well as our social media platforms, so stay tuned!

My guess is they are doing virtual visits (especially in this time of COVID). But in all honesty, do you still think you need your surgeon? Surgeons are really good at one thing - cutting. If you feel you need their dietitian/nutritionist (learning how to eat properly for your type of surgery) that can all be done virtually. Start searching for a primary doctor who is either knowledgable with the VSG (I assume most are these days) or one willing to learn.

Since you don't have any malabsorption its a matter of proper bloodwork (which you should be able to get from your surgeon) once a year and maintaining a healthy diet.

If it's been 9 months since your surgery, and you don't have any special medical issues or complications, it may be that all you need is occasional consultations with a dietitian, and regular blood tests to make sure you don't develop any nutritional deficiencies. So my questions would be:

  • Are there any special blood tests my doctor should order for me?
  • How long should I continue taking ...? (whatever medications you were prescribed post-surgery, probably a PPI ending in -zole)
  • If I do have a problem or concern with my surgery that's outside of my doctor's expertise, who can I contact?

Unless you've already lost most of the weight you want to lose, it would be good to have someone (a dietitian, probably) that sees you every few months, weighs you, and gives you advice on how to adjust your diet if you have any issues.

My surgeon is leaving to advance in college. Not sure what questions I should be asking other then who I will be seeing and if they do virtual visits. I live 2 hours away from the surgeon/hospital and they recommended I continue visits with my regular doctor/hospital.

It took me a few years to work up to my current routine which I feel like a huge success for achieving. It's about 3k less steps a day than you feel like a failure over.

The RNY wasnt the cause of most of my issues it was scar from original surgery. I also have gastroparesis which just adds to the problems. I have changed my diet over the years, I have been a vegetarian since 2014. I have been able to control symptoms with my diet. I have finally found a doctor willing to take me on instead of referring me to another doctor. He wants me to build up my strength before we consider surgery so probably be on tube feed at least a few months. Dr Pilkington did RNY in 2003 at Central Michigan Hospital. I have been working with Dr Daouadi at Henry Ford and he has been great and has wonderful support staff, would encourage anyone in Michigan to consider him as a surgeon

Met with surgeon today. All went great! I have upper GI May 12, psych appointment May 13, and EDG May 25. Then follow up on June 4 to discuss what procedure he thinks is best. Surgery possibly in June.

Now that we're less than 5 months from the re-set date, do we know for certain that it is going to still be taking place in October?

You didn't 'only' lose 10lbs in two months..

YOU LOST 10lbs IN TWO MONTHS.

don't downplay the importance of these wins. Family can be some of the worst at downplaying your achievements for whatever reason. Each pound lost is a pound to celebrate.
