Hello from a newbie

Good advice! My ride home is over an hour, and I live down a 2 mile dirt road. I anticipate some challenge there. It sounds like a pillow might help. Thanks!

To ads: having a nice pillow to hug in the car in a drive from the hospital to home was a really great idea for me.
on nausea - smelling isopropyl alcohol - or even the alcohol in the small alcohol pads helped through many drives when nausea hit me. Not sure how this work, but it worked for me.
I'm over 14 years post op RNY and I still get occasional nausea, just because. I use the alcohol thing- and I also always carry anti nausea meds that I know that work for me. Often nausea reminds me that my electrolytes are out of balance and I need more salt -sodium.

Missed this!
I never would have thought alcohol would help with nausea. Thanks for the tip! And for recommending a pillow. I do live out in the country down bumpy roads. Fortunately, I'm commutable to the hospital. Unfortunately, it's still an hour away! Cheers!

Well hello there!
Pretty sure that means we're having the same surgery! I've seen it called the loop switch, SADI, SIPS, SAD, and modified switch. All meant to be an updated version of the original DS with a longer common channel for less deficiencies and one connection to reduce the chance of leaks and issues.
All of that to say, congrats on your upcoming procedure! You've got this!
Cheers.

Will do! I'm less than a week out now and just managing though the bundle of nerves that comes with it all. Handling the pre op diet just fine so far except for the sugar. Hope yours goes well! Cheers.

Hi there!
I'm good! I posted some follow up after surgery on the DS board. My fault for not following up here.
Surgery was super fast - under 45 minutes. I don't even remember making it to anesthesia. I woke up in recovery and then two hours early in my room. The worst pain was from the gas and I was keen to be up and walking asap. I discharged at 10am the next morning after meeting all their requirements.
I just had my first post op appointment today and was moved to soft foods from all protein shakes and water. The surgeon says the incisions look good and are healing, however slowly. I've been puttering around at home the whole time being careful about bending and lifting but haven't had pain issues. The bit of cottage cheese today was amazing.
I did have to work literally all the time to meet the protein and water goals in the first week. Took a few days of constant sipping but now meeting everything consistently and I can sip up to 10 ounces an hour.
No buyers remorse here but it's certainly been a journey! Are you getting a DS?
