What has helped you most in maintaining your weight loss?
I can maintain my current weight (high 150s) if I stay in the 1500-1700 calorie a day range. If I go over that too often or by too many calories in any given week, my weight will start to creep up. If I consistently eat at the low end of the range or below it, I'll lose. But people's maintenance ranges can vary quite a bit. There are a lot of women on here who have to eat less than I do - and some who can eat more. It's pretty much trial and error to find your sweet spot.
Lucile777, the point is everyone's weight loss is different because each body handles the processing of food differently because of factors inside each body. things like enzymes, and good gut flora. I do not count calories.
My aim is daily protein of 90 grams -animal protein,( i don't process nuts, legumes, milk) i try for 30+ grams protein in morning. and limit carbs to under 50/day.. for best weight loss for ME. about 25 grams thru the day is my sweet spot. i eat almost no fruit, only natural fats...olive, avocado and butter. if my weight goes beyond my clothes i add 15-20 more grams of protein and cut carbs to minimum.. intermittent fasting works for those who tolerate it.. i can go about 12 hours most time without eating.....and no unwanted side effects.
You don't ask about the type of surgery, because the answer will/could be very different depending on the type of WLS.
I had the DS, so for me personally, I maintain my weight loss by eating healthy for my surgery - high protein, reasonable carbs, plenty of water. Would love to say exercise plays a part but for me it does not (just makes me feel better but has nothing to do with my weight).
I have learned after living with the DS for 18 years exactly how my body reacts to carbs in particular, because it's the carbs (sugar) that causes weight loss (or weight gain).

I've tracked my food since my RNY. I don't bring tempting foods into the house. I'm also gluten free and have reactive hypoglycemia as well as frequent nausea. I don't eat foods that cause me issues or to be nauseated, bloated, decreased blood sugar, etc.
I often eat the same foods over and over because they "work" and keep me satisfied.
Best wishes on your journey,
Penny

seeing the surgery as a tool and not a panacea
making a lifetime commitment to my maintenance plan(and everyone is different)
being mindfully active. I don't exercise but move as much as i can in my day
dont think i can ever "eat reasonably" or intuitively so knowing i have to track my food somehow
