Has anyone here had their RNY surgery reversed?

I am just wondering if anyone here has had their RNY surgery reversed for any reason? I don't mean having a revision surgery I mean reversing the surgery completely.

they'll only do that for serious medical issues that can't be resolved otherwise. I've seen a couple (or maybe a handful) of posts on that in the six or seven years I've been on here - but it's rare. Not sure if any current members have been through that or not.

I've also seen a couple reversals. Both were after months of agony and unsuccessful interventions.

After the reversal they were both in a better place but not really anything close to not having had RNY at all.

My Doc described it as "Imagine tearing down a house, then rebuilding it with the exact same materials. It will never be what it was before."

Good luck,

Tek

Thank you Tek for that information on those who have experienced a reversal. I was asking for a friend of mine who is having serious complications and is wanting to have her surgery reversed.

Just curious, but why do you want to have it reversed?

Hi Cathy. I was actually asking the question for a friend of mine who is having serious complications and doctors can find no resolution so she is wanting her surgery reversed and no revision.

I can imagine nothing so bad as i would want mine reversed. I do know some people have trouble after. The original surgeon should be the one to address changes, unless he/she is not dong surgery anymore...because most surgeons will not go in on top of another doctors work...

I like the comparison above of rebuilding a house with the same used materials... there will be some (benefit /loss)from the procedure because something will not be there.

Serious complications can mean many things. Those could be from poor food choices, or passages too narrow, a pinching of a nerve.. or scar tissue. More surgery will not fix overgrowth of scar tissue.+ many other problems...I hope friend has lost the amount desired. and now has tools of self control and diet tracking to enable good health from this day forward.

From my personal experience I can say have her look at her vitamins .

i can't explain why I'm rebellious with it but I've had SUCH a hard time forcing vitamins down .

Taking them properly makes me feel so much better but I stop .... and then my health quickly and very seriously deteriorates.
