Eating 3 weeks post

When I was at your stage post op - I also struggled to eat more then a few bites.. my program highly discourages the use of any type of protein supplementation.. so I ate a lot of cottage cheese and greek yogurt and high protein milk (fairlife/joyya) I was averaging approx 40g of protein a day (that was the goal set by my nutritionist) I just looked back over my food journals and I pretty much ate the same thing everyday...
it does get better!

That is rough! I do know the fairlife milk is lactose free.. but I don't have any recommendations on yogurts that are and taste good! You're definitely in a difficult place!! I'm with you - I don't really like the taste of most protein supplements.

Some yogurts that aren't listed as lactose free have an additive in them that helps break down the lactose so they don't alway**** to bad. Oikos has been my go to but still need to be careful.
cant wait till soft or normal food, won't worry as much about protein - I've been wanting chicken and fish so bad lol.

It's the best feeling when you get to move onto a new phase! Just remember to take it slow. I really struggled with meats when I transitioned to them.. so my best advice is start slow.. very slow.

Hiiiii
I am about to be 3 weeks post gastric bypass. I am on puréed food this and next week. However I can only eat about three-five small bites of food when I eat. Fluid intake is fine (I do the 30 min rule after eating), my protein is.... abysmal since I can't stomach the shakes and powder makes me dry heave cause I can't take the chalky flavor. Doctor recommended mixing unflavored powder into food buuut refer back to I only eat a few bites...
my question is - is it normally only to eat a few bites (food like applesauce, mashed potatoes and yogurt thus far). I know I won't eat an entire thing of yogurt but looking at my calories I'm just concerned I'm not getting enough. I do have appointments in a few days too but I'm more curious from others who have had surgery if this is normal.
thank you!!!
you are perfectly normal snd doing great.
do t worry about what you are getting on. Do what you can.
your body has plenty of stored fat to live on. Burning the stored fat is what causes weight loss.
Do t give that a second thought. Only 3-5 bites is exactly what your pouch is designed for, that also promotes weight loss, which is the whole point.
I agree with white dove, nod your head when your nutritionist says stupid things, go home snd carry on with exactly what you are doing now.
To echo the other responses, right now your primary focus should be on getting enough fluids. Your secondary focus should be on figuring out what your new stomach can tolerate. I wouldn't worry too much about protein yet. As your stomach heals, you will be able to tolerate more kinds of foods, and it will be easier to get the protein in.
