Aftertaste!
Ive been having a HORRIBLE on and off aftertaste in my mouth recently, I'm 2 weeks post op. It's disgusting, it's almost fishy tasting. Also, red Gatorade zero tastes nasty to me now, like pepper and medicine! I used to love the taste of it. Does anyone know what is causing these things?
If it common for our tastes to change AFTER surgery. I had a bit of a metallic taste in my mouth after surgery and my RD suggested going with bland foods and not adding salt to anything, but using squeezed lemon to flavor veggies and meats. My biggest issue was that I didn't want to eat anything because it tasted bad. Usually, there is something in the drink/food that is causing the reaction and you have to work through it. Mine finally just didn't happen one day I can't even say when it didn't occur because I was pretty used to using various things to flavor my bland foods. I wish I had more info for you. Just keep trying different things and if you aren't getting your fluids or food in, definitely talk to your surgeon and RD. You do not want to become dehydrated or not consuming enough calories this early out.
Hi and congratulations on your recent surgery! As the other person pointed out a change in tastes is common and has been reported for years. It varies from person to person with some people not being able to tolerate the taste of a favorite protein they drank prior to surgery to not being able to tolerate certain foods due to a bad taste and this is nothing new, it has been reported as far back is 21 yrs ago when I had surgery and has been unique to the RNY group. ObesityHelp has a content library and we have several articles on various topics, including this one. Here are a few links that might help you to better understand what is going on. Hopefully, you will find them helpful!

I had a horrid after taste with everything even 3 weeks out. Found out I had Thrush that causes it. Just a bit of options to throw out there. I couldn't drink anything without tasting something horrid with it until getting treated for thru**** also causes dry mouth and a weird looking film on your tongue as well, if you have none of that than you probably just have changing tastes.

you could be on keyosis which is the fat burning phase. It's good to be in ketosis for weight loss. The taste issues will pass
