What's the point of bariatric surgery?

Like a treadmill or a protein supplement; its an incredibly successful tool that has saved more obese lives than diet and the exercise alone. Since you have not had one, you cannot ever understand the huge benefits associated with it.

Lives saved is the point... is that okay with you?

Comgrats on being one of the 5% BTW.. thats awesome that caloric control worked for you! I would just be cautious if you are here to hinder or discourage others for doing whatever it takes to save their lives... that would be highly irresponsible....

I had a BMI of 63 at the age of 20, my BMI has slowly been on the rise for as long as I can remember. Nothing really helped at that point, and if I wanted to live while I was young at all, I didn't have much time to make something happen. I only had surgery a week ago, but since my pre op diet I've lost 30lbs and I will only continue to drop. I want children someday, that was not going to happen if I kept the path I was on, it would take me years to get to my goal weight. Surgery has also helped motivate me. It's not a magic wand, it's still a **** ton of work and a **** ton of healthy diets, it's a stepping stone. Surgery helped me realize that I'm not so hopeless and that I can do it.

Friend, you should be proud of your accomplishment..

I would ask though: if one person was to die of obesity related issues due to your post making them feel like a loser for considering WLS..

...could you live with that?

so did I before my WLS. probably 5 times. If not more. Unfortunately I always regained it, and gained some more.

I have been post op WLS for 12 years, almost 13. I had only a couple of years when my weight got up to the level I am now. Last year, pandemic + stress, plus other issues, I gained app 25 lbs above what I want to be. But I really indulged into lots of sweets and carbs, and things I normally don't eat because they are horrible for my health. I'm still more than 75 lbs below the weight I was when I started my journey. And I am back on my normal diet, and not only to lose the weight, but primarily because eating the way I was eating last year causes a lot of inflammation in my body, lots of pain (arthritis pain -severe, low back pain, etc.).

I know that losing 25 lbs would probably take me 6 months, but I know i'll get there. Not for vanity, but rather for a better health.
