What helped you most right after your surgery?

Looking for some advice and wondering what some of the things are that you found most helpful when you came home from the hospital and were healing? I really want to be prepared the best I can.

You probably won't feel like it, but short bits of walking several times a day really helped me. The days that I got up and walked around the house, I always felt noticeably better the next day. Also, keeping hydrated is crucial. Good luck on your journey and congratulations on taking such a big step towards better health!

I will be sure to push myself to walk daily. I had a relative that was wheelchair bound and he had surgery (not weight loss surgery) and he was unable to walk like he needed to after surgery and he got an embolism and passed away. So walking is at the top of my list. Hydration is a worry for me because I don't do a good enough job now as it is. Thank you for your well wishes.

I agree walking remedied a whole lot for me and initially I didn't get enough fluids in and I felt terrible. It wasn't until I could get my fluid intake up that I felt much better. I'm 6 months out and I'm drinking water nonstop, now.

I had a schedule and drank an ounce of water every ten minutes and walked for five minutes every waking hour. I crossed each line off on the schedule.

My surgeon only had one patient die. She went home and refused to do anything but sit. She developed an embolism and died.

That's really sad...to put in the effort to get to surgery, go through surgery, and then not do the work to get through recovery.
