DS gone bad.
Hello,
My husband is having surgery right this minute.
He got the DS in 2010 and has been very successful.
However, his stomach started having pain and we found out his pouch is twisting.
They are removing his lower pouch right now where the twist is and converting him to a gastric bypass.
I have no idea what this means as to a new lifestyle and how his eating will be different.
So worried.
I hope everything went OK. I'm sure his doctor and dietitian will help in making the switch. I assume the biggest switches are the amount of food he'll be able to eat and maintaining his vitamin regime. I assume he doesn't need to lose anymore weight so it's important that he eats enough to stay healthy. I know that with my DS I eat an enormous amount of food just to maintain my weight. Given that the pouch only holds a few ounces vs his former sleeve that probably stretched to hold way more than that, he'll have to keep an eye on that.
Let us know how he did.

You are definitely not alone. I'm 18 years post-op. I don't keep track of what I eat anymore with the exception of making sure I get my protein in - I aim for 120 grams per day and usually I come close. I would guess I eat at least 3-4k calories per day. Maintenance for me is carbs. I still struggle with that. During this age of Covid, I'm a full time teleworker now (and grateful to have a full-time job). With everyone around me complaining about gaining weight, I've actually lost a few pounds. I guess it's a good problem to have.
