Surgery date set, how did you calm your nerves?

That's good so far! The people that have mentioned it were post op and it seemed to be a transient feeling, maybe related to just the recovery and hormone dump. I never had it myself so maybe you won't either!

The big thing I've waited for, a surgery date in mid-October, and now I have the biggest case of nerves you can imagine. Did anyone else have this happen? My stomach is literally doing flip flops and I can't concentrate. I can't take 3.5 weeks of this! Help!

I was never nervous. I was excited. I had 100% confidence in my surgeon and I had done my research. I was ready. Just keep reading and learning as much as you can. Don't second guess yourself and feel confident in your decision.

You don't say what surgery you are having. I never looked at food as "never again", because for me having the DS, there's nothing I can't/don't eat because of the surgery. Granted, it may have taken a couple of years, but at 17+ years post-op, I eat what I want, as long as I stay within the rules of the DS - high protein, full fa****ch the carbs.

Good luck!

Janet P. I'm having VSG. It fits for me the surgeon says, and I was leaning that way anyway. From what everyone says, I'll have to wait a bit to see what my taste buds tell me but if I follow the plan for that surgery type, I should be able to eat most things eventually. I just need to not eat the wrong things. I appreciate the support. I've seen you post a lot on the boards and with your 17+ years, you have a lot of good advice. I'm going to stick with the health plan and see how things shake out, not going to worry about what I won't be able to eat ahead of time. Anyway, everyone seems to be different.

Thank you!

I was so very nervous about the surgery and the changes that I knew and hoped awaited me. It was all I could think about. I had a great surgeon but still was a wreck about being put under so I understand.

Tidgel, thanks for your input. It's hard for me to even explain why I'm a nervous wreck; I have support, and I have a good medical team, feel informed and have found new people on this site to get information from since they're living the life. I'm not even that nervous about being put under since I've had it done a couple of times for other reasons. I feel it's a bit less today since reading on here and responding is helpful, so we'll see! Not too long now!
