VSG tomorrow
Hello, I'm new to the forum. Tested negative for Covid and now I'm quarantined for surgery. I'm a little nervous since I won't have a support person at the hospital due to Covid. My dad is 79 and can't take any risks. I trust my surgeon and am looking forward to vsg. My surgery is at 3pm but I need to be there by 1:30pm and I'm scheduled for release Tuesday unless there's complications.
When I had my surgery, I was on my own too. My friends all lived rather far from the hospital, so I didn't ask anyone to stay with me. But the staff took such good care of me, it was absolutely fine.
Just in case no one else has told you: If you weigh yourself right after surgery you will find you have gained a few pounds. This is temporary; it's because of all the IV fluids they give you. It will probably take about 5-7 days for all tha****er weight to go away.
Best of luck to you, and may you have a smooth recovery like I did! You're going to have an exciting year or two, as you lose a lot of excess weight. I have a normal BMI now, and it feels wonderful.
Good luck today! I am sure all will go well. You will be sleeping most of the time anyway and hospital staff is generally pretty attentive so you should be fine on your own.

A nurse told me this trick years ago. Stand up and then bend over at the waist until your head is at about your knees. This usually gets rid of all the gas with no pain and no smell. If you can't manage from a standing position, then you can lie on you side in bed and put your head over the side of the bed until it is lower than your body. It only takes a minute of so to get rid of gas that way. Give it a try.
Anytime I feel gas starting, I bend over to tie or adjust my shoe and keep my head down until it passes. Nobody knows what you are doing.
