What do you miss most after having weight loss surgery?

For me, I miss the times with my friends where I could eat and drink anything I wanted to without hesitation when we went out for dinner. Loaded Nachos with extra cheese, sour cream, Guacamole and Queso, Quesadillas, Chili Relleno...and of course margaritas and wine! Now, I have to make better choices and alcohol is not my friend. I guess that part is a good thing! Darn it! I am hungry now!

After all this time my habits are so ingrained, I really don't miss anything at all.

I also live in a very healthy state, so all my friends watch what they eat and don't really overindulge.

My partner had a horrible diet when I met him, but I've turned him into a conscious food consumer, rather than the other way round lol

Maybe after more time I will be lucky enough not too miss my old life too! It is good that you have support and friends that are health conscious.

Your profile doesn't give a surgery date, so I'm not sure how far out you are. Life is very different and requires a lot more adjustment in the first few years.

I could say I miss all those things as well but I have to admit Healthy feels better than any food ever tasted. But you can Plan for a ****tails every one in a while. I pick and choose the moments but I'll have a few drinks every couple months and remember why I quit drinking very quickly.

You are right! Healthy does feel better than any of the unhealthy foods tasted. I don't regret having the surgery at all. I guess I was just reflecting on old times when I posted.

I don't miss anything more than I love how being healthy and active feels. I still go out with my friends and have a great time (well, I did before lock down at least) and I'm still just as happy sitting around the dinner table chatting for hours as I was before--just a lot more comfortable doing it.

Good point! It is a good feeling to feel comfortable in my own skin again. I should think of that instead of focusing on old habits.

I have found healthier alternatives for all the foods I enjoyed before. And no food is completely off-limits; I just have to stick to small amounts. Honestly, when I think about unhealthy foods I used to love, I don't feel nostalgic; I'm sad remembering how out-of-control I felt. I never want to feel powerless in the presence of food again.

Alcohol was never very important to me, so I don't miss it.

The only downside I can think of is that now I have to plan ahead a bit more. For example, on a recent road trip I needed to make sure I had some healthy snacks on me in case the convenience stores we stopped at didn't have good options.
