About to chop it all off...
Wow - that looks amazing! I too am struggling with cutting my hair - right now it's pretty long (think well past my butt)- but since the surgery it literally is a THIRD of what it used to be - so thin! Makes me super anxious as I've always had long hair which until the surgery was super healthy and vibrant... when I braid it now, my only braid is thinner than one of the THREE braids I used to make out of it.... I know it doesn't define us and I am GLAD I got the surgery but damn it, it's hard!
My hair was always my "thing" but I didn't want to be that old lady clinging onto the hair that wasn't flattering any more. Age is not our hair's friend and unlike telogen effluvium after surgery, it doesn't get any better.
I've had very mixed reviews, especially from women, because I think a lot of our femininity is tied to our long hair.

Well, I think it looks fabulous on you! I also don't want to be that 'old lady" clinging to my hair - but having said that, I also LOVE long, luscious hair on older women! I hate the mindset that says women have to chop their hair off the minute they hit menopause (a long time ago now for me LOL)- I always envisioned myself with long crazy grey hair - the grey part really isn't there for me (it's a genetic thing - my 94 year old mum who died last year had gray streaks in the front of her hair and it faded but still have 75% of her regular auburn). Something I am definitely considering though...
It's been nine years since my RNY surgery but I remember all too well the frustrations of my poor hair. I ended up chopping it all off and prayed for it to return. It didn't. It wouldn't grow and it was so fragile, it would break all around the crown of my scalp. I took biotin daily and slept with a silk pillowcase. I eventually upgraded to a silk lined hat to sleep in. I tried every strengthening shampoo I could find. I googled, asked hair stylists, I almost gave up. I was starting to look at wigs. But about two years ago I switched to the Monat restructuring system and it finally brought it back. I have heard good things about the olaplex hair system too but haven't personally tried it. Good luck
I went through this at about 3 months post surgery. It's normal. I got my hair cut short and slowly saw my hair come back. Biotin and protein are recommended. If you don't get enough protein in, it takes awhile, but your hair loss could start up again. It taught me to take my diet and vitamins more seriously. I hope this helps you.
