About to chop it all off...

I am seriously considering chopping all of my hair off. It's to the small of my back but it is so thin and breaks easily and there are CLUMPS of my hair in the brush after I GENTLY brush my hair. Then, there is even more lost when I am taking a shower. And it's everywhere and I am grasping at straws now. I have tried various shampoos, I take vitamins regularly and all of my labs are PERFECT so I am leaning towards genetics because I honestly don't think it's stress induced... For those of you that just chopped it all off, did it help? I am wondering if my hair needs a reset as well? Any suggestions?

I got most of my hair cut off last weekend. I was afraid but I love it! My hair was pretty brittle every since my first WLS surgery and the revision was even more impactful. I had back surgery Tuesday and wanted to make a proactive move.

i love it! My hair looks a little fuller!

Thank you! This gives me a little information that if I decided to cut it on the shorter side, I might be able to get some volume.

Before I cut my hair semi short I was losing a lot from breakage and my hair got a bit finer. But also at the same time it felt weighted down. A reset could be good. I would also suggest not going super short the first time. Get some cut off and if you like it you can get more cut off.

mine was shocking at first but I really am glad I did it for my situation!

good luck!

You're just a few months post-op right Dee ? Some folks with strong hair like me don't get any surgery-stress related fallout for a few months . The hair does grow back (often curlier ) .

sounds like you have a gorgeous head of hair that took you many years to grow . I'd try getting a serious trim and a blunt cut at the ends which will make it a lot thicker . Bangs can be a real cute change up too .... ((())) hugs

I wish that was the case, but I am 12 years post op so I have no clue what "specifically" to attribute my hair loss to. I have been chirpin' in the ears of some of my hairdresser friends and they have said that I have an oval face so a lob (long bob) may be the best route but I don't want something with too many layers as I am not one to take too much time getting ready. something quick and easy with a little curl here and there. I have board straight hair and it's been that way since day one so I am wondering what a shorter cut would do... I had it once to below my shoulders but that was when I was really heavy and I hated it. Now that I am thinner, have a thinner face/figure, I am hoping that even if I don't like it at least it's not like I am going to be around friends or large groups to be embarrassed about it, haha

I used to be a hair stylist and would not recommend someone with very straight hair go extremely short. The long bob sounds like a great choice for you. It does not have to be difficult to take care of. Work with the stylist to get the right cut for you.

Don't get talked into something that requires a lot of product and tools to maintain. Bangs can soften your face and still be easy to maintain. Look at lots of pictures of people with hair like yours.

There are some sites on the internet where you can upload a picture and then experiment with different cuts and colors,

I am thinking of a long bob, no layers at all at first and will go from there. Thank you for your feedback... I am soooo not a "product kinda gal" and will curl with my straightener when needed and that is about it. The only time I use products is if I am doing an attempt at an up-do and that is pretty much hairspray only... haha

Google "Bob" hairstyles. I have thin hair and with a bob it looks thicker. Bobs suit many face shapes and can be done with different hair textures. I just wash and go. For special occasions I add some curl, but I'm really lazy. I also like that I can do a combover to cover balding on the top of my head. It just looks like a side parted bob lol. My bob is longer in the front than in the back and mostly blunt cut with some light layering just near the ends. Don't let the stylist layer your hair a lot or all over because with thinning hair, the layers may collapse. (That mistake took me 8 months to grow out.) There are also lobs which are longer bobs.
