Losing the Regain - It's Underway!

I've had a few false starts, trust me. And of course, I look back and see my weight in 2015 was right where I want to be....up a bit in 2017....and then up some more. I exceeded the threshold for regain that I set for myself back at the beginning.

But you are so right - we have to have our head in the game. It takes focus, and when our focus is bouncing around among a dozen other demands, tasks, etc. - well, it doesn't work.

What I love about where I'm at now is that I have that focus, even though I can't explain it. I feel good about what I'm eating and even have been able to say "I didn't lose weight this week but I feel good because I ate the best foods for me."

Are your macros realistic, for age/activity, etc? I found when I set mine higher, I actually was more successful

yes its a fine line between undereating and overeating so I have to stick with- is my pouch full- do I have the signals, then stop within 3 bites. When I was gaining I was NOT doing this and overeating it.

Hello! I'm 13 years out from RNY and trying to lose the regain for 30 pounds too! I'm using Atkins, low carb and it's working really well so far. I've been doing it for 1 week and am down 6 pounds. Probably water but it's motivating!

I dare say that all of us are in the "slow loser" category when it comes to being several years post op. We've long left the station of the "honeymoon" period and now it's just hard hard work. Every bite is a decision.

Thank you for being open and honest. Congratulations on losing 20% of the regain! Is your Nutritionist part of your bariatric office or someone you found outside? Trying to make sure all of my options are known for when I have my own!

My surgery was at Barix in PA, which has since closed. I do have access to Barix in Michigan, but made a connection to a skilled nutritionist who operates a weight loss center in Florida. She does NOT use anything like HCG or crazy diets, just normal food, positive coaching and a lot of accountability. My husband works with her too for regular weight control. I lived in FL when we discovered her, but do my checkins via FaceTime each week.

I regained 20 pounds last year during the stress of DH's decline at the end of Alzheimer's (he passed away on 1/3). I rejoined WW (former lifetime member) on 12/18 because I needed to feel control of some aspect of my life while DH was rapidly going downhill. As of this morning I have 0 pounds to get back to WW lifetime range, 4.6 pounds to get back to my WLS goal, and a few more to get into the range I want to stay in. I find the accountability of WW works well for me.

And yes, it is a SLOW process compared to right after WLS!

I am so sorry about the passing of your husband. It is hard to say these earthly goodbyes.

But I really need to follow your example in using my resources to feel that control. For years I used my clothing size and the clothes in my closet as an effective maintenance plan. "My clothes are my clothes," I'd say, "And I'm not buying new ones." So I have a few key items there that I'm aiming toward, along with the number on the scale.

Slow is ok. My target is to reach my personal goal by my birthday in August, which would be 25 more pounds by August 8, or just about a pound a week.
